It is unbelievable to me that so many people (almost everyone!) believe that all it takes to continue supporting a device such as a smartphone is a custom OS; they don't think at all about the proprietary hardware and firmware issues after the OEM ceases to provide updates for those. It is literally impossible in most cases when signature verification takes place to update proprietary firmware like you can update an OS.Using LineageOS or even GrapheneOS does not make your device fully supported after the device OEM ceases to provide updates for the device hardware and firmware. So much misinformation in this industry.

@inference but muh lineage OS. Security is for nerds, real power users use shitty software and basically get orgasms by talking about how minimal their Arch setup is

@inference I even forgot what linux-libre actually help with. Except keeping your microcode outdated and having a bigger attack surface. The whole "philosophy over security" mentality is dangerous. In the perfect world, everything would be open source. But we live in a real world, so we have to deal with proprietary software. Unless we wamr our systems to be cracked open easier than you can crack a walnutMade even worse by "200 days uptime on my server" posts on reddit.

@jacob > The whole "philosophy over security" mentality is dangerous.> In the perfect world, everything would be open source. But we live in a real world, so we have to deal with proprietary software.Exactly how it is.
