Looked into Beckhoff's computer vision system for megacorp, and turns out the whole thing is a wrapper around OpenCV.Now i'd like to know how much they're charging for this.

@mavis the future is going to be full of that: NEW AI! (it's a thin wrapper around the AI written in 2015)

@7 I don't yet know if this pseudo-innovation is a sign of the times or if this has always been happening. We could all feel like humanity is moving forward but be dissapointed by the actual progress in a few years time.Hold on, when did we think flying cars would be everywhere by 2020, and what convinced us of it?

@mavis There's a technical name for this but I just call it the long-tail of individual innovations. This has happened I think 3 times so far with AI? A huge innovation is made, everyone says it's going to revolutionize the world, it creates some disruption in a couple industries, then everyone realises it's not artificial intelligence, it's just computers being able to compute faster.

@mavis The dot-com burst is a good point of reference -- before the burst there was a lot of innovation, and after the burst it was 90% people copying what had already been done to make a quick buck.
