@ericbuijs Are there HDDs in the base, or why is the Pi strapped to that stand?

@totoroot Yes, I have an old usb hard drive connected to the pi. It contains my music collection. To avoid cluttering on my desk I designed and 3d printed a case.

@ericbuijs And vulnerable because you never rebooted it with a patched kernel and other updates that fixed security vulnerabilities.

@desikn I'm not much of a security expert but the pi is behind my (up to date) home router and is only used within my LAN. Isn't it true that my router does not pass any inbound traffic unless I explicitly forward a port?

@ericbuijs @desikn As long as it's not listening for anything outside of your network, you have nothing to worry about.

@hund @ericbuijs Yes, as long as it isn't accessible via internet (LAN only) you should be fine. But nevertheless it's good to reboot when new kernel updates arrive (unless you livepatch it), they fix things. Uptime is overrated.

@desikn @ericbuijs It's okay if it's accessible via the WAN, as long as it doesn't listen to incoming traffic. With that said, it's a good idea to block access to WAN, if you don't use that network anyway. It's also good practice to keep it updated and safe. Better than sorry. :P

@hund @desikn To be on the safe side I updated, rebooted and blocked internet access to the pi. Because of the blocking I soon realized that the pi, besides playing my own music, also streams radio and podcasts from the internet. So it's of course not LAN only (I'm an idiot). I appreciate all the advice.
