By now I understand eating meat as soft climate denial. 🤷♂️

@42GB "Understanding" something doesn't make one correct, but whatever. Since I want to reduce global warming as much as possible, I focus on fossil fuel burning before getting into lifestyle judging personally, but I appreciate that it is a popular pastime. I think that the fossil fools tricked a lot of people into taking their focus off fossil fuel burning by appealing to animal rights activists anthropomorphic empathy.

@GreenFire Isn't industrial agriculture not as big as a problem as fossil fuels? Plus it is in our hand to change it. We just need to stop buying this shit. No one is forced to eat meat.. I feel like it is to late to ONLY focus on fossil fuel.

@GreenFire I mean... also most science points out that we need to switch to mostly plant base.. so what are we waiting for.

@42GB I get you, but since burning fossil fuels is 75% of the cause, agriculture is about 18% globally but only 11% in U.S., it would help mitigate global warming the most by reducing fossil fuel burning as fast as possible. I think it is more effective to convince people to stop burning fossil fuels prior to alienating them by attacking their lifestyles and culture. To me it is just out of my desire to reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases in our thin, precious atmosphere as fast as us eight billion people possibly can.

@GreenFire thanks for the updated numbers. I must have mixed it up with mobility(cars and planes) or something like this. Im not sure anymore. Is it really a good idea to comfort people in the believe that their habits are totally fine while heading towards an ipcc path with leads to +3 degree? Not sure what's alienating about healthy food. People need to wake up.

@42GB I personally saw how alienating it was when all of the farmers that I was working with on getting them to support a price on carbon by taxing fossil fuels evaporated immediately after the Green New Deal rollout. They told me that they couldn't support climate action if it meant taking away the careers their families had been doing for generations.Regardless of how much disinformation their fears were based upon, the fossil fuel industry were able to compound those concerns and get them to now oppose having solar farms in their communities. Until we totally defeat the fossil fuel industry, everything else is just crying in the rain.

@GreenFire I absolutely agree with @42GBThe farmers of agricultural meat and milk production (even the ones with "green farming" or a bit smaller businesses), are absolutely blind for the fact, that they are a huge part of the problem. And they are. Among the facts are clearly not only the pollution or the carbon-emission. It's of course even a lack of fertile soil and lack of water problem, which will become even more drastic in the coming climate collapse years. It is in fact, just right now, even in the northern hemisphere. Much has to change, and it has to change fast. Even traditional, centuries-long family businesses. Or nature will do it itself, with unimaginable force.I find it important to recognize and honestly spread these logical, scientific facts as a part of the movement for climate protection.

@IsabelleV @GreenFire @42GB It's not economically feasible for folks to give up their husbandry here yet. We currently pay immense premiums to eat plant-based foods in Canada. The prep work for a lot of plant based dishes takes hours of labour that are often charged at a premium. This will not change by individual action alone, in part because of policy and current capital availability. Until meat actually reflects its environmental cost and the price of veggies becomes affordable, it's unlikely that anything will change. The increase in popularity of Indian food should help, as it provides excellent vegetarian dishes rather than just meat substitutes. Canada's carbon tax is making meat expensive, but plant based options are not getting cheaper.
