@joel @atoponce Considering I have my pw manager putting passwords on the clipboard anyway, I don’t think «pw gen → clipboard → pw manager» weakens things any further.

@koherecoWatchdog @joel I'm just trying to get password generators into tools that password managers that don't ship them by default, such as spreadsheets:https://fosstodon.org/@atoponce/108992424914786217and notebooks:https://fosstodon.org/@atoponce/109009251496360611

@RL_Dane It's not [OC]. I shamelessly took it from other social media posts.

@atoponceEver since I discovered KeePassXC, it's been my password swiss army knife.

@daniel For those who keep passwords in spreadsheets or notebooks, nope, they don't.Thus:https://fosstodon.org/@atoponce/108992424914786217andhttps://fosstodon.org/@atoponce/109009251496360611

@atoponce Wish they had a password generator that had some options as well, be it passphrases, psudo-passphrases like Apple's, words+ numbers, etc. That way, you can generate a password that is random... but yet somewhat typable if need be.

@dfloyd888 Agreed. It would be nice if password managers shipped more "styles" of passwords aside from just stock passphrases and random meaningless strings.I have a web-based password generator project where "Pseudowords" are an option, which includes Apple's Keychain generator.Doesn't help that it's not part of password managers, but you can run it locally in your browser without a web server. Some screenshots attached, and the project is on GitHub.https://github.com/atoponce/webpassgen

@atoponce So far, the best I've seen is KeePass. Not KeePassXC or others, but the old KeePass, because it not just allows you to specify how you want passwords, done, but also takes input from the keyboard and mouse in addition to /dev/urandom. This gives some peace of mind, at the minimum, you know that the computer's CSPRING isn't the sole gatekeeper for your stuff.

@dfloyd888 My project also has a mouse entropy collector. The animated randogram is generated by the CSPRNG. The bit at the x-y coordinate in the randogram at interrupt is collected then whitened via von Neumann randomness extraction. That whitened data can optionally be mixed with the system CSPRNG when generating a password. As shown here.
