@kev It is a sort of a catch .22. One of my concerns, is that it takes hours to recharge. Being in a seedy part of town for the few minutes it takes to gas up a car is one thing, but being there for hours is another, especially if an attacker can just keep you from getting the cord unplugged (EVs will not move until the cord is removed.)

@joel That sucks, because I use Nova Launcher on my Android devices, as it is lightweight, does what I need, and isn't burdened with vendor crapware.

@joel You got me curious about it. I like the fact you can use your own server to store recovery info, and it doesn't need a phone number with it.

@atoponce Wish they had a password generator that had some options as well, be it passphrases, psudo-passphrases like Apple's, words+ numbers, etc. That way, you can generate a password that is random... but yet somewhat typable if need be.

@atoponce So far, the best I've seen is KeePass. Not KeePassXC or others, but the old KeePass, because it not just allows you to specify how you want passwords, done, but also takes input from the keyboard and mouse in addition to /dev/urandom. This gives some peace of mind, at the minimum, you know that the computer's CSPRING isn't the sole gatekeeper for your stuff.

@safiuddinkhan A few ways... perhaps do similar to Wizardry Online and give account bonuses for stuff earned by dead characters, bonuses that transfer between characters. Also, give more than one way out of a situation, even through the PC will die eventually.

@clay Thanks. I wasn't thinking along the lines of a specific language. Even something written in C++ and using cgi with Apache would be good enough, provided it had decent security. My node.js knowledge is limited, as I've mainly worked in other environments.

@atoponce awk is more of a general tool, but I've wind up using cut(1) for most things these days.

@jrballesteros05 @RL_Dane @daniel Some of what Red Hat has done has backfired, with Ubuntu and even SLES gaining ground in a lot of areas. In some lines of business, RHEL was the only authorized Linux usable, but now, Ubuntu and Debian have been added for development, as Ubuntu now supports AD out of the box.Of course, it would be nice if Linux distros supported easy install and use of LUKS with a TPM (perhaps via clevis and tang) out of the box.

Latest small project: Changing a Raspberry Pi's / filesystem from ext4 to btrfs, for that bit-rot detecting goodness.

@joel Active bitrot detection is something that only a relative few filesystems have. It takes some engineering because every block of every file has to have a checksum, and that checksum made part of the file checksum.Another trait of these filesystems that do bitrot checking, like ZFS and btrfs is the fact that they are always copy-on-write. When a file is modified, the old data stays put, and the new data is thrown on new sectors/pages. This is used instead of a journal (like ext4 uses.)

@urusan I went with Pikapods for my WordPress website because the Borgbase people are awesome, and getting the site set up is relatively inexpensive. Just make sure to download your stuff every so often as a backup. It works well enough, although I don't post much, because I'm right now trying to figure out how to integrate SBCs and MCUs into stage magic.

@Raspberry_Pi It is a tough battle to fight, especially with stuff globally sourced everywhere. Keep up the good work.I'll definitely be buying a number of Raspberry Pis in the future. One random request... 16 or 32 GB RAM model? 8 GB is great, but 16-32 would be useful for making ZFS based NAS appliances.

@rl_dane @peteorrall Ages ago, the closest I can think of is RHEL... but the closest I can think of is Debian.

@peteorrall @rl_dane Makes sense. I have used RHEL since 1994... er, Red Hat then RHEL. However, about three years ago, I found that it kept lagging behind, so moved to Ubuntu. Next move for me will be Debian. However, just as you mentioned, documentation can be hard sometimes. At least Ubuntu has such an installed base that I can find almost anything there, but I like the simplicity of Debian. Now you got me curious about SuSE.
