I don't really get the whole "NAS" thing at any scale smaller than "this rack chassis is full of HDDs"it's just a server

@izaya bog standard consumer NASs are quite a different form factor, and also come with an easy to set up OS that defaults to a sensible RAID configuration

@izaya if its primary usecase is sftp, ftp, smb, nfs, nbd, or similar, perhaps it's a file server?

@izaya I think mostly it's just about having a whole bunch of easy to grab hard drives VS having to open a chassis.

@polychrome that seems like a reasonable argument"small, comes with hotswap drive bays stock" = "NAS"

@izaya like, my moms business doesn’t need a rackmount NAS for 5 or so computers, they need the cheapest Buffalo 2-bay i could find that does RAID-1 and SMB shares
