"Men are (on average) far more interested than women are in casual sex, buying sex, watching porn, and experimenting with unusual fetishes. It’s not that women never enjoy such things. But, on average, they enjoy them much less than men do. Remove the progressive goggles, and the history of the last 60 years looks different. The sexual revolution isn’t only a story of women freed from the burdens of chastity and motherhood. It is also a story about the triumph of the playboy." OH YEShttps://www.commonsense.news/p/im-30-the-sexual-revolution-shackled?

@teamochi Do women enjoy all that, or are they trained to believe they enjoy that?

@teamochi @LadyMont where i take issue with Louise Perry is her blaming of feminists for this mess. And it is a mess. When feminists were advocating for women's sexual liberation it was about women's desires, contraception, decision-making, sexual agency & sexual pleasure. It was advocating for lesbians, against sexual violence & for women's sexual safety. It was not advocating for women to become men's tedious fantasies, or for women to try to turn ourselves into another version of the male gaze. Men did that. libfems didn't help much, they were the ones wanging on about how pole-dancing could be 'empowering', but they were not the ones that put poles in nightclubs or distributed the porn. And the women advocating for women's sexual liberation (away from the shame of being sexual, away from the shame attached to having more than one partner in a lifetime etc) could not possibly have seen the impact of the internet & the porn explosion that drove the technology. i'm not convinced by her 'solution' either. i don't think marriage is any safer now for heterosexual women than it ever was. she's right, that the heterosexual world is unsafe for women and it doesn't become safer in a marriage necessarily. we need to go back to the original conversations about what sexual liberation means for women, and remake them in the context of an internet/ pornified world. and yes, totally agree. vanilla is wildly under-rated.

@LadyMont @teamochi I have a hunch that the few women who actually enjoy it are in a group of women who can orgasm easily from PIV sex. The one night stand men aren’t known for wanting to provide pleasure to a woman so that she has an orgasm. And then you’d need to be someone who isn’t concerned with the greater risks for women that include disease and pregnancy. And then of course, many women don’t like sex with strangers as there’s no emotional connection. So combine these factors (and more) and I don’t think that most women actually enjoy hookups with strangers, we are just told that we should.
