The main obstacles for #linux based distros is the linux community itself.Hate #manjaro, hate #ubuntu. Hate #systemd. Hate snaps, hate flatpacks, hate appimages.Instead of helping linux go total mainstream among general users. We are fighting a pseudo civil war.Don't like a distro? Switch to another. But Please stop this toxicity.

@bauripalash systemd is a cancer which is eating the ecosystem making hard dependencies and try to make other unixes irrelevants, fuck systemd. Canonical is trying to push their fucking proprietary crap snap to get control on their store, yeah like apple, if we allow that now in the future we don't have right to complain if any of our apps are not allowed in their store. Manjaro, I've recently read this:https://blog.brixit.nl/why-i-left-pine64/

@bauripalash Main obstacle for Linux distros is not the community, but the big tech companies behind some of those distros. They create walled gardens and force minor players to accept their rules if they want to be able to keep working with modern software. (I.e., some applications no longer work without having systemd installed, and there is an increasing number of them that, while being open source in name, cannot be easily installed by compilling them or whose source code is purposefully hard to find.)That is the real obstacle. Differences of opinion are not an obstacle. On the contrary, they help us grow.

@josemanuel difference of opinion is healthy but toxicity is not, that's the point I'm trying to make.

@bauripalash >The main obstacles for #linux based distros is the linux community itself.Well yes, the Linux developers keep adding proprietary malware to the kernel, Linux.>Hate #manjaro, hate #ubuntu. Hate #systemd. Hate snaps, hate flatpacks, hate appimages.Same, I prefer Gentoo-libre GNU/Linux-libre>Instead of helping linux go total mainstream among general users. GNU/Linux was available to the mainstream since 1995 or so (although quite difficult to install at first, but now is quite easy).Everything is there available for general usage, but general users have been trained to hate what a decent OS is like, thus they crave the corrupting proprietary malware that GNU/Linux mostly lacks (but not for much longer it seems).>We are fighting a pseudo civil war.Nah, we're just getting invaded by proprietary software companies. The "open source" groups either ignore, or even assist the invasion, while us free software enjoyers fight off the attacks tirelessly.

@josemanuel @bauripalash Which relevant software relies on systemd?

@samurro Just one example I happen to be forced to use at work: https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/sase/globalprotectAlso, the whole of KDE Plasma requires, at the very least, elogind, if I’m not mistaken.@bauripalash

@josemanuel @bauripalash Seems to me like just one example of a bad application.

@bauripalash That's a good point. In my experience, it's hard to find an actually bad #Linux distro at this point. I understand people not liking #GNOME, because it's relatively heavy, but if you have a spare gig of RAM it really isn't that bad.I get people not liking #snaps or #Flatpack but if you don't like me just don't use em; I'm a #Debian package stan myself but I don't run around complaining about how much I don't like #snaps lol.

@samurro Sorry for only remembering one off the top of my head. Here are even more examples of bad applications:https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Hard_dependencies_on_systemdAlso, GNOME, like KDE, would need systemd if it weren’t for elogind.@bauripalash

@josemanuel @samurro These DEs cannot run without a specific init system; that is not fair. 😵
