We have a big software migration planned for this coming weekend, so of course the database teams want to use this week to move databases from on-prem to cloud servers. This last run of UAT is quite interesting.

Is your app on-prem or in the cloud too?Because if it's "on-prem" and you move your db to the cloud, then you can't really say your app is still "on-prem".Good luck when your internet connection goes down or your cloud provider has an outage! LOL

@gme Our app started on-prem and was relocated to Azure Cloud within the past six months. The main datacenter for the corporation is being shut down and they're moving everything to one of three cloud services: Azure, AWS, or OCI Cloud.

Sounds like my company! LOLWell, if your app is already hosted in Azure then it makes sense to host the DB in Azure too.Funny enough we don't use GCP that much either. LOLAnd Oracle Cloud... Ooofa. But where else are your going to host your Financial and HRM application suite that you're paying an arm-and-a-leg for? ;-)

@gme Actually, our application lives on a couple of VMs in Azure but our data will live in Oracle Cloud, so that's fun.

@gme I completely agree with you on that, but that decision was outside of my realm of responsibility. It makes for some interesting latency at times.
