Imagine something like vr-chat, but...1. No anti-cheats or DRM, ever.2. Everyone could make their own worlds and people could download and join them kinda like worlds dot com does.3. UE5 instead of Unity4. People could make their own avatars in-game through a very detailed avatar editor, save and load presets, and share them in their rooms.

@Jain Its cenralized. Creators need permissions and stuff to upload their creations into the game.

@enigmatico :blobcatgoogly: they need permissions? I thought that you can load maps and avatars without permissions...

@Jain It works through ranks. Depending on your rank, you have permissions to upload stuff and all that. Its not the most restrictive thing in the world, but I'd prefer a little bit more liberty.

@enigmatico Ok so, i assume that VRChat doesnt really has a big game logic in it, so theoretically we should be able to dump the unity game scripts, port it to unreal engine and make it federated...Would be even hard to argument with copyright, since the most complicated thing on this game is probably the mapping of sensors to an avatar

@Jain I wouldnt even dump that lol. I dont think the game logic is that complicated and the most complicated part would actually be the network part. After all the game doesnt really do much. UE can most certainly do that easy and probably even better, though UE can be very confusing for beginners.

@enigmatico hmm... Im pretty sure that ue has some network code for multiplayer stuff, and i would be surprised if one has to make a new voice transmission implementation

@enigmatico @Jain do not forget the biggest thing of vrchat is they made their entire own programming language thing that can safely add complex scripting without letting worlds do whatever.if the game let you use monobehaviors and everything then worlds could do as much as individual unity games themselves which would be cool but also really dangerous

@lamp @enigmatico :blobcatshrug2: from what i saw, vrchat let you nearly do anything with a player except repositioning... You can disable that by turning of features like shaders i think

@enigmatico @Jain honesty I'd probably lean more towards godot rather than unreal for itgodots editor is lightweight easy to setup and it's UI isn't that hard to learn, so it'd probably make a decent base for implementing an SDK, and godot is foss with no strings attached so it can easily be changed and modified as neededgodot definitely isn't nearly as capable as unreal in 3d, but considering how spaces like vrchat are i don't think that's a big deal if it doesn't have the newest graphics tech, people will still figure out how to make it pretty, now unreal is probably better optimised and will probably handle badly optimised avatars better but those are gonna cause lag regardlessidk i know I'm rambling a lot but imo for something like this having the SDK be as simple to setup as possible is something i'd wanna prioritize, and i think godot is a good candidate for being easily accessible (and apparently godot already has primatives for VR, so it wouldn't take that much work to put VR into it)
