Jinya (my partner) and I successfully replaced the serpentine belt on my car this morning. 30 minutes. Got the tension practically perfect, first try.

@tek It really is. I had a very good guide at hand; one of its best suggestions was to grab a Sharpie and mark the threads of the tension bolt before loosening it. Time to tighten? Get the marks on the thread to their original position. Tug (in a very specific fashion). Make minor adjustments as needed.Worked a charm.

@thraeryn OMG. :blobcatfacepalm: That’s obvious in retrospect. My first car was a POS so I was always fixing it. One day I was driving my kids home and the alternator seized up. I started a timer, and 45 minutes later I had a new one in and working. I felt like a superhero.

@tek No shit! That feeling was entirely justified! And yeah, "just mark the bolt" is the sort of tip that one person delivers, and that everyone else immediately cries, "It's so SIMPLE!" Thank you, random car guy; you're a real one.
