[public]@rhiaro I think, if there would be any mandatory ActivityPub Conformance Tests, it would be transparent and immediately clear who want to build communities and who wants to build monopolies.

@sl007 @rhiaro the Community Group could provide a test suite under the W3C umbrella. This would be neutral enough

@rigo @rhiaro Well, in my eyes, it would not mean much if it then wouldn't be mandatory for all members.Cause if “someone” is not conformant for a “reason”, they simply would not take part or submit tests. Destroys federation. My FLOSS thing @redaktor (nor the project for Europes largest publishing house) does know that the other implementation only accepts 1 value and not multiple (destroys all LD) or is only accepting "type": "Note" or such.If _they_ are not conformant, _we_ get the complaints from our users (disencouraging w. 300.000 magazine subscribers ;)Also Evan and James had for AS the wonderful idea of “Describing potential actions of Objects” so that if 1 implementation only has buttons for the "Announce" and "Like" can show any button w. `icon` and `name` and just let the party replying to do the rest etc. We have many proposals now but “Official extensions in the W3C wiki” are only 3 by 1 implementor.PS: Anyone noticed the mastodon 'language' button yet?AP would be **multi** language.

@sl007 @rhiaro @redaktor This is more complex than you think it is. W3C is not a government. But things can be certified & info pages can clarify the role of laws like the DSA, the DMA & the data act. We definitely need to phone :)

@rigo @rhiaro @redaktor well, the DSA/DMA was also worrying to me. Apart from my Talk with the EU Tech Lead who is in charge for the Commission:In Brussels, the W3C played little to no role compared to the Matrix Consortium.I do not mean the obvious reasons that Army of Germany or France is using matrix / or that EU tackles direct messages first. Also when I was in Straßbourg and Brussels (or mid-pandemic the virtual press conf), I only noticed matrix and a few NGOs. If W3C standards will not even play a role for DSA nor national executions, the whole thing will also get no funding. W3C made 1 time public remarks and that was in Open Forum Europe - but all serious standards bodies did there. Be in the Parliament.

@sl007 @rigo @rhiaro @redaktor there are many parliaments, which do you mean? Have the prime minister send me a message on here.

@bengo @rigo @rhiaro @redaktor And lol. Don't be crank, please. In Europe there is 1 Parliament. You did not attend the meeting when we were invited ???Crypto-Christine doing not-understandable things (but “user first”, lol) did not want.Dr. Amy Guy did not have time either to do it. This was probably why the Group selected me in the meeting (I was stupid enough).I ALREADY spoke to EU Tech Lead, protocol is here https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/2021-07-24-socialcg-policy-sig-meeting/1927/5 and I HAD the prime minister cause I briefly spoke with Ursula. But the Christine Queen was simply not interested in doing things for the user, you know, it was just the other way around.AND I PAYED MY LAST MONEY WHEN GOING TO BRUSSELS AND STRAßBOURG !!!You are welcome, boy.

@sl007 @bengo @rhiaro @redaktor I think we really need this telco to get things organized 😀 . I'm seeing this from the data people viewpoint. From there it looks very different. It is too early to draw negative conclusions. Don't get burned in the Brussels Bubble

@sl007 @rigo @rhiaro @redaktor Seb, how many eurocoins will europes largest publishing house spend to incentivize the construction of a conformance suite?

@sl007 @rigo @rhiaro @redaktor Sebastian, I’m sorry if I seemed crank. Please let’s not get ad hominem about other good people. I wish I was in a place to have helped more back then. I attended the first meeting and tried to be helpful in chat. I was medically ill during the second one.

@sl007 @rigo @rhiaro @redaktor You said “be in the parliament”. I’m not European. AFAIK Christine isn’t either. I don’t know European law. Can an American be in the EU parliament yet? I guessed no.I was not trying to crank when I said there are many parliaments. I was talking about something bigger than Europe.

@bengo @sl007 @rhiaro @redaktor There are more Americans in the EU parliament than Europeans on the hill. But you're right to remind everyone that this is not a regional thing.

@rigo @sl007 @rhiaro @redaktor if the EU wants my help on ActivityPub, they would get in touch with me privately and buy the help. That hasn’t happened, so I assumed they didn’t want help or they’d be fine doing their own self-determination

@bengo @sl007 @rhiaro @redaktor Oh, if the world would be that simple. And let's be clear : Working the issues out from the US is burdensome. The current discussion has a variety of loosely things lumped into one thread. If impact is the goal, it needs to be organized differently.

@rigo @bengo @rhiaro I doubt, we can say “data people".Some put profit first and some put users first :) If you give me a time, I'll be there.

@bengo @rigo @rhiaro @redaktor Yes. Basically anyone can become an invited expert (maybe except they done something very bad in the past :).Or this https://ec.europa.eu/info/funding-tenders/opportunities/portal/screen/work-as-an-expert If you talk about “something bigger”, talk to @downey cause United Nations Open Source might be bigger. If you talk about national governments: The Planet Earth has 193 countries on the paper (yes, I know about Catalunya, the Kurds and such).Oceania basically has no internet.More 13 countries have no internet.More 66 countries fall out cause of censorship or state-DNS or state-Net only (and now just think of big Russia).I would name some more as questionable and point out that some even other countries see W3C as enemy cause of enemy US tech giants. So, we would need to repair the Internet first. And the UN.
