Systemd's primary creator is now working at Microsoft. Still working on systemd. And this gushing article about how great it all is."Oh but things are different now."Uh huh."Microsoft is so friendly to Linux and open source now."Ok. Learn the hard way.Run BSD.https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Systemd-Creator-Microsoft

@atyh I wouldn't raise him so high to the level of deity by calling him a "creator" - he was systemd's main programmer.I've looked at a number of BSD's and it appears that none have respect for the users freedom.OpenBSD has contempt for it rather - by having a script that installs proprietary software automatically if it detects that some hardware has proprietary software for it.Don't buy into "open source" and other proprietary software ensuring movements, rather use GNU instead (GNU/Linux-libre or GNU/Hurd.).

@atyh I would run BSD if they had a varient with a Libre kernel. Until Hyperbola is ready they don't since Liberty BSD is dead. Until then I will try to run Gnuinos or Devuan with the Libre kernel.

@Suiseiseki @atyh And one of systemd’s main advocates. My hope is that his new role will be like calling off the dogs. Maybe systemd will stop gobbling things up.

@atyh been recently looking at the flavors of BSD. Of net, open, and free, which do you recommend? Leaning toward Free, as it seem like maybe a good starting OS for a BSD n00b like myself.

@mrbitterness I agree. Free is (in my opinion) the best jumping off point. It also has waaaaaaay larger support for things, because of how much larger the dev base is. It also has some really unique thing like jails, and the ability to run Linux binaries, all sorts of stuff. The installer is also redicuously easy. When I first moved to BSD, I was using a laptop with a weird sized screen. I had a hard time figuring out how the display system worked. If I would have been able to, there is a pretty good chance I would still be using FreeBSD.

@mrbitterness I saw a thread recently where some FreeBSD devs were having some success running Linux app images on FreeBSD. I dont know where its at, but if that happens, I may have to use one of my dormant hard drives for a FreeBSD instal.
