My tldr; for new Mastodon users:Toots = TweetsBoosts = RetweetsStars = HeartsHome feed is who you follow (think Twitter).Local feed is everyone on your instance (i.e. server)Federated is posts from people on *other* instances followed by at least one person on *your* instance. You don't have to use Local or Federated, but they can be helpful for finding people to follow. You can follow/interact with anyone on any instance by using their full handle:@username@instancename

@gabriel I'll never believe that Ken Lay died when they said he did. He's probably dead now, but I never really bought that story. Not saying I can prove anything, but very skeptical.

@atyhI may check it out as well at some point, right now not sure I'd have the skills to contribute much to the project, but I'm on board in spirit.

@Linux_in_a_Bit also, wait a few days before reacting to Breaking News... the first version/early version is usually not the whole story or requires correction. I've been burned by this many many times.

@web3isgreat when you lose $20 million in Optimism coins, it's important to look at the bright side. I don't know what that is, just being optimistic.

@atyh I found lynx unable to open onion addresses. but using tor w/the base gopher command works well for the most part. Curious if this is just me. Are you able to open .onion addresses with lynx?

@atyh have tor / torsocks, but everytime I try, including w/shell option like you have above, it almost immediately returns "Alert! Unable to access document"., Can do it w/the gopher command (using tor/torsocks) just not lynx. that's working well enough for me I suppose, it's just bugging me that I can't figure it out. I'll have to mess w/it some more, look at lynx config and see if there's something I'm missing.

@atyh I fought with tor / torsocks for a while at first, but the fact that I can connect through that method using gopher makes me think I got that part working. I just think it's something related to my install and/or version of lynx. I noticed the apt installed version is. a 2.9 dev version, which doesn't seem to match what's at the invisible-island.net site, so I'm going to remove the package manager version and try to install from source.Don't have a ton of experience with that, my only experience w/compiling in Linux coming from configuring the suckless DWM/SLStatus/ST/Surf, etc. tools, but it's worth a shot.

@atyh so I haven't fixed it yet, BUT a default compile will not include SSL support, and I'm guessing the default apt install didn't either, thought that's sort of mind boggling to me in this day and age. Haven't had success in the compile as I don't seem to be able to properly point it at my openssl libraries to compile properly, but that's certainly the issue. something to kick at tomorrow.

@Linux_in_a_Bit @trebach @Mixtape I thought NextCloud only does an email client, not actual email server provider. So just a different web-mail client interface and app.

@atyh been recently looking at the flavors of BSD. Of net, open, and free, which do you recommend? Leaning toward Free, as it seem like maybe a good starting OS for a BSD n00b like myself.
