I have a feeling that the only reason why people do online documentation instead of man/info formats is dev's wish to earn money by putting small ads and trackers on language documentation websites.I don't mind online docs, but I don't see any reason why docs should be available only in html format, it sucks.Maybe I should make converter to info/man formats and make a special package like devdocs.io, but for providing info/man for programming languages and libraries.

@w96k speaking of converter: Pandoc [1] can convert HTML to Roff (man) or GNU TexInfo. Perhaps it can help you :)[1]: https://pandoc.org/

@w96k It's simple, you can put nice diagrams and pictures in HTML. You also have many more tools for text at your disposal, compared to man/info. It's not called "hypertext" for no reason.I do have a similar position to yours though: docs may or may not be online, but if docs require context switching, you're doing it wrong. If I use a function, docs should be next to the function. If I use a command-line tool, docs should be available from the shell, and so on.

@w96k one of the niceties of programming in #perl, you get this for free. It has a native documentation feature called POD (plain old documentation). Pod is a basic markup language and can be converted on the fly to htnl, troff, markdown, latex, etc, using standard tools. Any module you install on your system has all it's docs available to you as well because pod is embedded in the source code. Simply invoking `perldoc Module::Name` will pull up the docs just like man or info.

@splatt9990 Yeah, perl is cool in that regard. I like that it provides documentation as an script called perldoc or something. It is very handy.
