Norway, then Denmark, then now the US once more. In a week.Extremes flourishing everywhere, violent rhetoric, nationalism, people increasingly disconnected from reality, the news (in some cases, all the news, in other, the ones they don't like to read), their own and past times. From any sort of critical thinking, science, History, you name it. It's the “you're with me 100% or become my biggest enemy” all the time.I don't think all this is going to end up well.

@kosmoplan so nationalism has been redefined to mean something bad. Otherwise what’s wrong with it? It’s not such a bad thing.

@jordan31 Nationalism is not such a bad thing? Do you mean nationalism, or patriotism? those are two very different things.

@kosmoplan actually after a quick search I’d say either again. By these terms I’d say neither are bad. But a rebrand of the words have led us to think they are bad.

@jordan31 Patriotism is about loving you country, yes, which also means recognizing what's being done wrong in it, and changing it. The same way sometimes it is said that the difference between the beginner and the expert is that the latter would take anything that makes their work better, as opposed to the former, who thinks they already know it all hence need no advice.Nationalism is about blindly thinking one's country is right no matter what, about being the beginner.

@kosmoplan I disagree with the definition on nationalism. I like the definition as stated by Wikipedia and Webster etc. it’s about supporting a nation’s sovereignty and sustainability.

@jordan31 “Notes on nationalism”, by Orwell, is I think a good read on the topic.

@kosmoplan why a fictional writer though? Is that the same Orwell I’m thinking of?I prefer older definition of words that tend to have their definition for long long periods of time and rooted in Latin or Greek meaning. That way not even 2022 society’s rebrand the word. I haven’t slept so forming sentences is getting harder by the minute.
