@Gina I lived in Okinawa for 4.5yrs and it be like that. One thing a lot of people forget is the community part. And omg.... I volunteered for the Okinawa Marathon each year. I'll see like 80yr+ old Okinawans still running faster than me.

@Gina Interesting. The flip side came out in a documentary on NHK last night, about hikikomori, social recluses, who seem unable to cope with economic and societal pressures. We can't put it in the context of Japanese culture, of course, but we thought capitalism's predilection for spitting people out it sees as useless to its demands had a lot to explain, although other societal factors, unable to make allowances for a health condition, are obviously at work too.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hikikomori

@Gina @seachaint I dunno if the world patently -needs- the kind of IT I do, the processes I support have gone on for a long time without computers.But it pays and I don’t hate it.I wouldn’t think that strictly counts as ikigai as defined, but it means I don’t feel entirely useless.I think it is wise to view that potential fulfillment as a spectrum. Not a Boolean on/off switch.
