The EU Commission's "Strategic Foresight" thingy really needs some reality checking. No, blockchain does not create transparency where there wasn't any before. It's a clunky database for fuck's sake.

And don't get me started on the half-assed "AI" or "quantum computing" shit.

This is the kind of "foresight" you get when you only ask people who want to sell you a bridge or something.

The fact that the EU commission isn's even feeling any kind of shame with regards to this is telling. And damning.

@tante But how else are they going to keep an immutable record of every financial transaction that occurs and tie it to your identity without central bank blockchains? Stop making totalitarian authoritarianism so difficult.

@tante I have no idea what "digital twins" are, save that (judging by the other items in the infographic) I can be pretty sure they do *not* do what the infographic says they do.

I've been exposed to the concept of "digital twin" before -- essentially, it's just creating a model of the real-world asset in digital form. For example, if you have an industrial plant with a motor, you might have one spot where you have all the information about that motor, any motor controls, and manuals, any drawings, all in one spot, and likely situated in a 3d model. It won't change the world if you have proper recordkeeping already.

@tante@mastodon.social Well, a blockchain can create transparency. If it is actually public and some independent entity owns most of the network. In reality nobody needs that in any context the EU cares about. Just mandating that such information be published on a website would be enough. Also usually more accessible.
