I finally got a reasonable result casting 3d printed parts. Here I cast the face shield of a greco style helmet. It came out good enough to use as a night stand accessory.R&D is done and we're on to prototyping.Lessons learned so far.PLA is too ashy for my purposes, I'll be switching filament to a wax based product that leaves less residue.Plaster or any gypsum product is not suitable as an investment. Ceramic shell casting is the way to go. I made a slip using taxidermy clay (don't) and it worked ok. There is cotton fiber in that kind of clay but it was 5 bucks for 10 lbs.Zinc is more forgiving than aluminum. The last cast actually included a Lorcin 380.
