I'm glad I joined a #cycling club - it's a nice change from riding alone. I've participated to all activities so far.As a FOSS & privacy-conscious user though, the tools they use... Bleh.* Google Groups (mailing list)* Google Photos* Doodle for polls/activities registration* RideWithGPS for GPS routes/navigationYou d/l a calendar/listing in PDF format from the website. For each activity there's one link to a dedicated Doodle poll and to the GPS course.1/2@mastobikes

I find this tedious, more so because many members are older people, nearing retirement or fully retired, and not necessarily confident on a smartphone/computer. Surely this could be streamlined somehow, using privacy respecting tools.#Framadate instead of #doodle is an obvious choice. But I think binding everything into a single site would be best.I'm not ready to rock the boat - I don't have a ready alternative to propose, and I'm not a web dev.#cycling2/2@mastobikes

@normandc @mastobikes all of that could be handled with NextCloud + Discourse... including the GPS tracks (I use PhoneTrack) and Doodle Polls (the NC Polls app is functionally equivalent), it also supports photo/video galleries (including auto-upload from mobile devices using the NC syncing app), plus it supports collaboratively editing documents replacing GoogleDocs.. not to mention acting as a Google Drive/Dropbox replacement... I can assist in setting one up...

@lightweight @normandc @mastobikes Nextcloud is great! The polls work nice, same for the ONLYOFFICE integration... except that doesn't let you edit docs on mobile.I also use it to have a synced calendar, but to set up the webdav on any iphone or android device is a pain in the butt.

@normandc @mastobikes plus wrote this (but slightly outdated): https://tech.oeru.org/installing-nextcloud-and-collabora-office-online-docker-ubuntu-1604 - now I deploy OnlyOffice rather than Collabora. It's all #FOSS and free of any license costs. Can be hosted on a $20-$40/month commodity VPS...

@normandc @mastobikes Discourse would be a no-brainer comprehensive Google Groups replacement (NextCloud might offer plenty of functionality - it includes vid conferencing and collaboration around documents) even providing excellent "participate via email" functionality... I can provide help with Discourse - here's some upgrade documentation... https://tech.oeru.org/upgrading-docker-based-discourse-forum-instance

@normandc @mastobikes fwiw, I'm a committed cycling advocate :) - my company set up the original https://spokes.org.nz and https://can.org.nz sites (not the current versions - that was a decade ago)... you can find the originals on https://archive.org :)

@nicemicro @normandc @mastobikes I use the NC Sync app on Android (I don't use Apple stuff, or Microsoft for that matter :) )...

@nicemicro @normandc @mastobikes I'd have to check again, but I'm pretty sure I've used the OnlyOffice on Android - and I think there might even be a mobile version of it.

@lightweight @normandc @mastobikes I have not tried the onlyoffice iphone or android apps (if they exist), but while you can edit the markdown files from the nextcloud sync app directly, you can't edit the OO files, only view them (unless you buy the professional license for OO).

The GPX Tracks could shared as brouter links or for example as GPX Files in Nextcloud thats true on the other hand maybe Mobilizon could be nice?@lightweight

@nicemicro @normandc @mastobikes it might be an issue with the Apple App store - they're no fans of #FOSS. Apple's 30% cut of $0 is $0.

@fuesstest @normandc @lightweight it is on topic because an office solution instead of the Google suite was a question. And I was not talking about Collabora Office, but Onlyoffice. And I know the Onlyoffice desktop app can access Nextcloud directly, and you can also use it from the browser through Nextcloud's file browser.

@nicemicro @fuesstest @normandc Yes, I suppose that many people think email is part of an 'office suite'. I don't hold that opinion, but I wouldn't use NC for email. I use Mailcow. It's industrial strength, with comprehensive functionality and can integrate nicely (thanks to adhering to open email-related standards) with NC.

@lightweight @normandc @mastobikes I think it is part of Onlyoffice's parent company's business strategy, as the same is true if you open a document from the Nextcloud android app.But to be frank, I installed the Onlyoffice document server community version through the Snap package.

@nicemicro @lightweight @mastobikes I use a Linux phone (Pinephone) so the Android app is a no-go for me. I'm just using Nextcloud's web UI. Also, on Phosh desktop based on GNOME, Nextcloud integration is a breeze (not on postmarketOS though). As opposed to failing to sync my NC calendar & contacts on Android; couldn't figure out how to make it work (I did install DAVx or something to that effect). Ir doesn't matter, I hope to ditch the snitch device some day. I'm using it less and less.
