Site wide server blocking should have an opt outIt's to protect users, I understand that, but if I click a button that says "I'm ready, I can take it, take the kid gloves off" you should let meIf you don't display my interactions with blocked servers to users who haven't ticked that box, their experience will remain unchanged and safeWhy would you NOT allow this?(All this keeping in mind I would remain beholden to this server's rules in relation to my own posts, I support that)

@Fourteen I have wanted to make an instance for my town for a while. But I didn't want to shock the townsfolk with racism and Nazism. Nor did I want to nanny them. So, my idea was to have an optional default blocklist that the software would ask users if they wanted on first account creation.

Even though I'm a free speech dude, I disagree for one reason: illegal content.Let's use an extreme example: an instance that hosts cp, where it's legal, but then a user on an instance where it's illegal wants to opt out so they can view the content. Here's a less extreme, more specific example: Nazi imagery. I remember back in the days of #Gab, where I made an alt on the first (and only ever) federated vanilla #Gab fork, #GabFed. It lasted awhile, but suspiciously went down, and I suspect it was because where it was hosted (either #Netherlands or #Germany, I can't remember), Nazi imagery was illegal to host. I'd assume the site got shut down and the admin got arrested.TL;DR site-wide instance blocks can protect admins from accidentally hosting illegal content and allowing users to opt out increases admins' liabilities.

@realcaseyrollins in regards to universally illegal content, I agree, I didn't have the character limit to add that because this instance is very limited in that, but I think that should be on a hard block list that cannot be disabledOn laws between countries, it's a bit harder to solve, but I guess what goes on that hard block list should vary by country, ie servers in Netherlands or Germany would be within reason modifying their conditions for that list to fit their laws

       > I think that should be on a hard block list that cannot be disabledBut here's the issue; what left wing admin is gonna be like "I'll only put the illegal content on the hard block list! The soft block list is for the Nazis!"Chances are, if there's a hard block list and a soft block list, the soft block list will be sorely underutilized.
