Thinking about killing my #matrix server. 🤔 It gets little usage, costs me monthly, and is an additional thing to manage when I could just focus on my #mastodon instance.

@matt Have you considered running an XMPP server instead? They're a lot less resource hungry.

@jnsn The real failure is not being able to get my friends to persistently use Matrix. They all prefer Signal or WhatsApp or Telegram. 🤷If i had friends using Matrix, I wouldn't mind paying what I do now

@matt @jnsn I refuse to install WhatsApp, Signal, etc. and got friends+family to install XMPP clients so I can reach them. I currently recommend Conversations for Android users (gratis on F-Droid) and Monal for iOS users.Let's make using Internet Standards a requirement not an option!

@matt You know, you can have that Matrix Space without running a homeserver on your own? The rooms are living on every participating homeserver. So if you have someone who need a homeserver, refer them to https://joinmatrix.org/servers/ and they can still join that Space. 🙂
