@kev There's a reason he's a bilionnaire. You only amass that amount of wealth by being extremely selfish. Acusing others of being selfish is as hypocrite as can be....

@kev He has a valid point though: getting in touch with coworkers and chatting over a cup of tea is just not as easy when you're working from home. There are ways to address this, however. All the rest seems like poorly thought-through and quite one-sided rambling of pseudo-arguments that doesn't acknowledge that his reality differs quite substantially from those of other people (I assume).Your initial assessment seems more succinct and to the point, though.

@kev I believe it's Lord Dickhead, please have some respect."Certainly, in the companies I own...""A digital advertising company in which I have a financial interest, is doing extremely well..." "Your company — and your country — needs you!"Funny how those who can survive on passive income seem to conflate those last two...

@kev hear the argument with the canteen personnel and guards often. Same exact BS when cars replaced horses and people were up in arms about street sweepers and hay dealers. The reality is that you are going to lose the brightest people in your companies when they can find an equal job with better work/life balance. Because that's what it's actually about.

@kev Yeah let's all get back in the traffic jam to our boring office where the boss is looking over your shoulder. I have a better idea instead of doing a full time bs job and make the billionaire even richer be lazy and enjoy life.

@theDoctor I agree - I'm actually one of those people who prefers to be in the office, because I like spending time with my friends in the office (they may disagree though! :))I think what irked me is the insinuation that folk who WFH are by definition, lazy. I actually work far longer hours when I'm at home, as do most people I know.

@kev Yes, I also thought that he seems oblivious to the many valid reasons why one might want to work from home. And I'd say it was much more than mere insinuation.Ironically though, I'm actually one of the people who tend to get distracted when I have no social oversight so some of what he said applies to me. I really don't like generalizations, though. He, on the other hand, doesn't seem to mind them.

@kev some people are lazy in the office too so I find that line of reasoning comical at best. there are bad actors in both spaces and I just don't see any arguments from either side attempting to fix that. And no, the answer is not this trendy "bossware" or "tattleware". If you need that, you are probably not a great supervisor in the office either 😂

@kev Reading something like this makes me really angry. Today my employer also announced that all have to come back to the office for at least one day per week. I find such quotes pointless.

@kev Yikes, this seems to be extremy opinionated instead of fact driven and with an open mind. There of course are advantages and disadvantages in working from home vs an office. However, it can work depending on the type of job. Many businesses have done it successfully. Seems the author is more frustrated by how our jobs are evolving and doesn't want to change whether good or bad. What shocks me the most is COVID-19 just brought this to the forefront, working from home is not new.

@kevTotally agree. I'm feeling particularly sensitive about his sort of attitude at the moment. Had a seizure a couple of weeks ago so no driving licence for 6 months minimum. My workplace is 35 miles away with shit public transport links. I can see this not ending well especially if managers and HR are starting to think like this worthless piece of sh#te.

@kev I get the point he's making. Kind of. Like the how it makes you more productive if you go to work each day and work with your coworkers I kinda get that, good social interaction is one of the keys to being productive, but his entire view is centered around this metropolis work, just look at his point about sandwich shops, what a fucking douchebag.

@metalune @kev It's the old-fashioned command-and-control mindset. It's also the management and sales mindset. Salespeople feed off each other's energy and enthusiasm. OK, but we software developers need solitude and long, predictable periods of uninterrupted time to concentrate. What does management give us? Open plan. Frequent meetings. Office jabber.I've achieved more working from home in the last 8 days than I could have done in a month in the office, precisely because I was alone.

@kev here’s to hoping these real estate entities get absolutely decimated. I’ve yet to hear about one that did anything good for the areas they operate in.
