@caffeine @gamingonlinux @sks316 Today I learned I am a non-Googler? I actively use Google products with few reservations, whether that be at work or home.I use Mastodon / Fosstodon because that is where many OSS folks are, it is about outreach. Privacy isn't a reason I would use Mastodon over Twitter when I literally post the same things on both, and even if I has major concerns with privacy & Google, that wouldn't be a reason for me to use Mastodon because Twitter isn't a Google product.

@gamingonlinux @sks316 (the other way around is promoting non-google to googlers obviously, even while you offer some google-tainted functionality to them for their convenience)

@JoshStrobl @gamingonlinux @sks316 Nowhere I was saying that all mastodon users are non-googlers, just that I find extremely problematic to advertise big tech, actually in any setting. I do find it especially strange on Mastodon of course, that's why my reaction.

@JoshStrobl @gamingonlinux @sks316 If there are two users on mastodon, and one is a "googler" and one is a "non-googler", there are non-googlers on mastodon, and then you are advertising to non-googlers.If you have a Google News button/link/whatever somewhere in your site for convenience, among other option, it's not really advertising. A dedicated post on the other hand is.Again this is not about mastodon, it's about advertising Google, which is bad (I'm not interested to argue on that).
