Someone on our upper management team ran a poll today and it was hilarious in its transparency. The choices were like this:1) I understand what management is doing and I'm SUPER excited about it.2) I'm a little hazy what's going on and I'm worried.3) I don't understand any of this. There was no option to say you understood but didn't agree. No option to say you were hazy but excited. The only way you say you were concerned about the direction was to say you didn't understand it.

@mike we have similar polls in the company. I just don't read those and click the most right option whatever it is :-). Still have my job :-)

@dammn Yea, we've had some in the past that were absolutely comical. My favorite was one that was something like:1) I trust I can express my opinion to upper management without fear of retribution.2) I don't trust I can express my opinion to upper management without fear of retribution. What answer would you give if you did trust? What answer would you give if you didn't? Absolutely useless poll.

@mike @dammn Your management group is fantastically not self aware. We have really good long surveys that are "anonymous". The last 5 questions can usually identify you down to a couple people but they are optional.

@mike if you're not SUPER excited, you clearly just don't understand.

@mike It appears some good is desired, but didn't think it entirely through.

@mike at one of my previous job there was a monthly survey where you could tell management and problems that you see. Then they gathered all workers and did a presentation of the results. One issue persisted month after month as the most reported problem. During the presentation they said "Why did you report this? We already showed this as number 1 problem last month"

@mike Aan, that old trick. We've had that several times in the past already. It's just to ensure that the only possible follow-up action is for them to more clearly explain the management's vision to those "dumb" employees that don't understand the brilliance of it.We've had to endure a couple of those sessions, which teach you to give the "desirable" answer next time.

@mike I've seen this happen in politics as well. People have a legitimate concern about something and the government's response is to put more effort into "educating the public" about why what they did is actually a good thing š

@mike there is also one poll which runs weekly. It collects information what you liked during the week and what you did not. Every week same questions, every week same answers. People got numb already but it's "mandatory" to do it every week :-). I've told my manager already that I'm here to work and not be involved in any social experiments. His answer is still the same: "your voice is heard and your opinion is received and I will make sure that upper management hears it too".
