What software do people recommend I host if I want to make my own fediverse activity pub server? I was thinking to host pleroma but I would like to get other peoples recommendations. #fediverse #activitypub

@jason123santa Pleroma is really easy to host in my experience. Both in terms of low administration comlexity, and low resource consumption. Definitely recommend it

@jason123santa As @robby pointed out seem #pleroma a good option. The folks from @disroot / @muppeth seem to use it too (https://fe.disroot.org/). Methinks there was a post by them where the say that they are quite happy with pleroma. Albeit I cannot find it ATM.

Pleroma is a good choice. Very easy way to deploy, number of frontends to choose from and light on resources.

@jason123santa Your msg is not entirely clear. Do you want to write a new ActivityPub application? Or host an existing app for the sake of microblogging, as we are doing now?

@jason123santa Aha, nice. I'd personally say there's value to getting more diversity in the kind of apps that are hosted, and then indeed #Pleroma is an option. But also you can consider forks of #Mastodon, such as #Hometown with local-only posting or #Ecko. If you want to go modern, innovative but still a tad experimental, then #GoToSocial may be a very interesting choice. Bit more experimental still you get to #Bonfire. Here's a nice overview I co-maintain:https://delightful.club/delightful-fediverse-apps/

@humanetech That's a great list!Is there a #Mastodon-/ #Pleroma-like personal #microblogging solution that only needs webserver plus MySQL, i.e. could be run on any web-hoster without shell, docker, etc?

@enot @jaddy Ah yes, I should have remembered that, as I tooted about it yesterday 🤭 Dunno if it works with shared hosting provider. With #WriteFreely you have a single executable that should be invoked, and which you can then attach to a #MySQL db (by default it uses #SQLite which I think needs permission to create 2 files). Should be do-able, at least with my provider.

@humanetech @jaddy I ran it briefly on a little windows 10 PC with an intel atom processor, it was shocking to me how easy it was to set up.

@sj_zero @jaddy That's the advantage you get from #Golang projects that compile to a single executable.I think that the new #GoToSocial default install might be(come) similarly easy. But I'm not sure, as I haven't followed closely for a while, but project has attention for light-weight operation and may have SQLite support besides Postgres.

@lamp The issue with mastodon is that its so big for just a single (or a few other people if I invite some people). There are theme support. Don't know how it can be uggly. Also there is a mastodon front end for plemora.

@guysoft @jason123santa Thank you. I see you are interested in #VR. In the context of this thread then #ImmersSpace is highly interesting then, if you hadn't heard about it yet. Projecct is going the #FOSS #Metaverse direction, plus federated 🤯 https://web.immers.space/

@humanetech @guysoft @jason123santa are you blobs familiar with the old High Fidelity codebase? it was finished and open sourced but the company behind it folded, some other groups picked it up for a little bit and folded, but it's a full PCVR bit of kit with in-world scripted objects and its decentralized.

@guysoft @jason123santa @humanetech i may have a copy of the original docs somewhere. i remember spidering it when they announced the project was dying.you might have better luck picking up from one of the dead forks https://github.com/tivolicloud
