@Flick @LadyMont In the UK lockdowns the hospitals and care homes were giving people with learning disabilities and the elderly people do not resuscitate orders to sign. This should have been a big national scandal but there was no public outrage. That tells you the society we live in. This only came out because the families of these groups and the disability rights groups were going to the media to expose what was happening. The Care Quality Commission even had to get involved. The Care Quality Commission is a regulator in the UK that inspects care homes and hospitals in the UK. If a Care home or hospital in the UK doesn't meet the health and safety standards of care required then the Care Quality Commission can shut down the care home or hospital or even suspend services.https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/feb/13/new-do-not-resuscitate-orders-imposed-on-covid-19-patients-with-learning-difficulties

@LadyMont @Flick The British public and press are having a melt down over the Prime Ministers parties in lockdown but not about the abuse of DNRS happening in our care homes and hospitals. What the Prime Minister did was absolutely disgusting but in lockdown loads of people were failed by the systems that was supposed to protect them. This is where the real outrage should be.

@Flick @LadyMont Christ on a bike!I’ve had strong reservations about assisted suicide since I heard that in one of the countries which allows it for mental illness (Belgium, I think), it turns out (surprise, surprise) that far more women than men opt for assisted suicide for “untreatable” mental illness (aka being shafted by a patriarchal society).

@MellowMarigold @Flick @LadyMont It was reported widely at the time, but for some reason never really took off as a scandal when it should have done. For once I don’t blame the journalists - they brought it to our attention (across the political spectrum - your link is an Observer article, but the Times and Telegraph also covered it). It is entirely our collective failing as a society. We don’t give a shit about people with disabilities and the elderly.

@EmmyNoether @Flick @LadyMont >It is entirely our collective failing as a society. We don’t give a shit about people with disabilities and the elderly. This is why the United Kingdom is NOT ready as a society to have euthanasia. Some disability rights groups for years were warning the general public about how euthanasia policies put the disabled at risk of harm. I never used to understand what they meant but seeing the whole DNR situation in lockdown I now finally understand what the disability rights groups were warning us about all these years.

@LadyMont @EmmyNoether @Flick Euthanasia should not be allowed for children no no no. The scary thing is children who are disabled and ill suffer abuse and neglect from their parents. An manipulative abusive parent instead of the killing their child will get the state to do it for them. Its possible and scary.Euthanasia should allowed for people my age 24 and older because we have lived enough of life already.

@Flick @MellowMarigold @EmmyNoether 24 and terminally ill as in cancer sure. No needs to suffer like that imo. But In the Netherlands you have 24 year olds walking around with a suicide pill given to them by a doctor (tis is all legit too) because they’re depressed. Now I don’t want to belittle them and everything. But at 24 there are a lot of opportunities to get over that, get better. It can and most likely will get better. So the fear of the opposition at the time asking “where do we draw the line?” Of course was justified and oh look it came true. Oh, and kids wanting to off their demented parent “Poor mother/father didn’t want to live like this your honor. Let’s give the old bird/bugger the pink syringe. Go on then.” 😒

@Flick @LadyMont @EmmyNoether 24 is not young at all and is an acceptable to choose to die. I have been through childhood, adolescence and early 20s. Going through all these I don't want to live to see another decade anymore. My generation has seen the advances in technology, all these terrorist attacks in Europe, recessions and the global pandemic. We have seen plenty already.

I am only excited for this month is the local elections in my city and across England and also Eurovision. I am a politics junkie who loves following election results trends. My family are massive Boris Johnson supporters and I don't like Boris Johnson. I want his party to lose all their local council seats. I love the UK euro vision entry but it's not going to move us up from last place :(

@MellowMarigold @LadyMont @Flick @EmmyNoether Here is a story by a Chechen soldier about the fascists you seem to support:Zaur – Military serviceman of Akhmat-Khadzhi Kadyrov’s Regiment:It’s possible that before I came here, I doubted [the stories] a little bit. But back then when we freed the first prisoners from the house, which was directly situated nearby the Azovstal’ [factory], when those prisoners and civilians came out from the basements, they hugged and kissed us. And told us that they are happy to see us. They cried with tears in their eyes! I then realized that I ended up exactly for… (holding back emotions) what was needed. And I don’t doubt one drop that it was the right idea.I remember that moment, that fragment which laid into my head, when we stormed a house where there were a lot of civilians, and many of those very Azov fighters. (Azov is an extremist organization that is banned in the territory of the Russian Federation.) A mother with her child runs outside, and we’re looking through binoculars. We can’t storm, we can’t enter, we can’t do anything. And then they shoot the mother in the spine. The mother falls… and we scream to the child: “RUN!!! RUN!!!” from all sides. The child froze, not understanding what to do. On one hand he wants to run, but on the other he wants to help his mother. And then suddenly his head, get this, this child’s HEAD gets shot by this scum, this evil BEAST. In this very moment, we all just suddenly forgot what death means, we forgot that there could be snipers there, just as a Crowd, Broke In! We threw smoke grenades so that they couldn’t see us. We broke in and just tore up all of them [fighters] that were inside. Well we got in there, but not just got in there. In the sense that people sacrificed their lives. Many soldiers sacrificed their lives in that moment. But we entered and fulfilled our task.We could care less about our lives when we saw the life of a child being gone. When we realized that these are not people, but are animals, nothing less than beasts, that can allow themselves to… to kill a child. These are not people. Therefore I think that I ended up here exactly for the right reason. And everything that I have done here, I have done for these people who live right here and are smiling and hugging us. They even take the coordinates of where I live, as well as of my other fellow combat comrades, they want to come to our homeland and thank us for the liberation.

@LadyMont Pretty much every one of my friends who struggles with mental illness is suicidal at least some of the time, but a lot of this comes from stigma, disadvantages, poverty and a lack of overall options. I don't see how this isn't just a way to get rid of vulnerable populations. When you're in a crisis and you go in to get care, you'll just end up leaving with a suicide pill or not leaving at all. It's financially motivated extermination disguised as compassion.

@LadyMont This is horrifying. Yet so many Canucks seem to be basking in ignorance about the direction our country has taken. At the same time, I'm glad this option exists. However we were warned about the slippery slope and it's happening. I have a mild version of what this woman has (among other things) and I am very lucky to live in a building where the toxicity isn't too bad. Everyone would do well to eliminate toxic products from their lives. It can be very limiting for those of us who can't tolerate this crap.

@0cean @LadyMont The government is a reflection of society. If you have a society that doesn't care about the poor or disabled or vulnerable then it is inevitable a society will end up with a government that doesn't care about the poor or the disabled or vulnerable. The culture of not caring about the most vulnerable this poison spreads and infects all of society.

@MellowMarigold @Flick @LadyMont Seconding what Flick said - hang on in there, you’re young yet. And as Lady Mont says, your brain’s still in the process of finishing developing (the pre-frontal cortex, the bit doing impulse control and forward planning, is the very last bit, not done till mid twenties).Someone I know once said something very sensible: “Most people who attempt (or succeed in) suicide don’t actually want to die. They just don’t want to live the life they’re living.”So hang on in there. Also, kindly, every generation sees shit happen in the world. Much shit in my generation, my parent’s generation, my grandparent’s generation.

@susansiens @EmmyNoether @MellowMarigold @Flick So true. And it’s not just bulemia. It’s all the toxins that accumulate in our gut as well and the daily flow of chemical waste that’s sold to us as food that damages that gut even further. Kids get this crap daily. No wonder so many people are chronically depressed.

@LadyMont >We’re trained systematically to not care.Interesting. I also think human nature is inherently selfish. A year before the pandemic came to the world I was a student at university. In one class the university lecturer asked the class a question is human nature selfish or altruistic ?I answered selfish. If humans were altruistic then the world would be a much better place. The suffering in the world is a result of human selfishness, i gave examples of Homelessness, wars, humans destroying the planet. My lecturer was shocked and then argued how she always puts others before herself in any situation. I expressed scepticism over her point.I said " but you don't really know that until you're difficult situation where you tested" I believe nobody knows their true morality until we are actually tested. People like to think of themselves as good people but I think that is bullsh*t because difficult and testing times brings out our real character. That was argument I pretty much made in class. My lecturer was shocked at my views along with the class too :(

@Morbidemoness @LadyMont My lecturer expressed pure outrage and disapproval over my views. She even said its so "sad" I see the world this way.I admit too I am selfish. I really try to be a good and compassionate human being and I at times have failed to do that. In the beginning of the pandemic I was upset about the covid19 deaths, everyday I read the stories of those who died from covid19 and was upset they died because they had so much to live for. When i had my 24th birthday in 3rd lockdown I stopped caring about the covid19 deaths and I was upset my 20s were being wasted in lockdown. I know that makes me an awful person.

@MellowMarigold @Morbidemoness @LadyMont It does not help those who died or those who lost them. you are not selfish for wanting to live your own life. There is only so much any one person can do, about the greater ills of the world, when they repeat. Few would choose to live through most of what we learn as history, eh.

@MellowMarigold @EmmyNoether @Flick @LadyMont I am so sorry for what you went through in school. Did you ever look around and see other girls in a similar situation? Were you in schools with very few students? How about activities outside school?I have no desire to belong and never have; I figured out when I was pretty young (12 years old) that life isn't easy even for the girls who belong and who are supposedly "popular." I saw one girl who acted as though she was a princess at school walking home in a very poor neighborhood.
