@Datendealerin @feditips Woah this is so neat! Is there a way to tie one's @user@mastadon_instance account with a bookwyrme instance account?

@flourn0 My plan for the weekend was to find out about it. I'm #NewHere too π But this sounds like a good way π

@Datendealerin @flourn0 In theory, one account ought to work for everything. You can follow PeerTube video feeds from a Mastodon account (or Pleroma or MissKey etc). But your mileage may vary, especially with newer software projects like BookWyrm. I'm an old hand in the 'verse but haven't been as active the last couple of years so I havenβt tried it out yet.#BookWyrm #GoodReads

@strypey @flourn0 Thanks a lot! I'll try it out as soon as I'm admitted. They're taking it slow right now π

@strypey @Datendealerin @flourn0 You can follow and interact with other fediverse platforms, but one thing that is missing is some kind of unified account across platforms. So for example if you want to post your videos on a peertube instance, photos on a pixelfed and microblog on mastodon, you still need three accounts. There are initiatives like zot/6 <https://zotlabs.org/page/zot/specs+zot6+home> intended so solve this particular issue, but I don't know if it's going to be adopted in the fediverse.

@giuseppebilotta As I understand it, the original vision for ActivityPub networks was that fediverse server software would implement two parts; server-to-server *and* server-to-client. That way I could use the web app on a PeerTube or PixelFed instance to log into a Mastodon or Pleroma instance, verifing that I'm the owner of my account, then use that identity to create channels, post videos etc. @Datendealerin @flourn0

@strypey @Datendealerin @flourn0 That would be similar to how you can can create accounts on several sites by associating them with famous large centralized providers. It wouldn't be a bad thing to have in the Fediverse (among Fediverse services, obviously). Was the idea just abandoned, or is still being worked on?

@giuseppebilottaI'm a bit out of touch with developments over the last couple of years. Maybe @lightone or @humanetech can shed some light?@Datendealerin @flourn0

@strypey @giuseppebilotta @lightone @Datendealerin @flourn0 There's a whole bunch of things going on, but very dispersed. No telling what'll become broadly adopted, especially the more foundational stuff like roaming / federated identity. For many of the popular apps, if you want to be a content creator it means creating a separate account. The following, boosting, liking can be done from a single account. The fediverse can do with more help from technologists and anyone pushing it forwards.
