@neauoire Hmm, it's a tough problem.Federated social media is a completely unknown concept to most new users. And the people who stick longer than the current issue goes might turn into people that learn and move on to other instances or even completely different software.

@pixel @neauoire I will also add that picking an instance to make yourself at home is a bit overwhelming at first if you're prone to overthinking. This is exacerbated by the fact that some instances are invite-only or require an application. I have a list of instances I'd like to switch to though now that I've been learning the ropes!

@neauoire these aren't quality users yet who will add anything good to the network, I say let them cut their teeth on m.s , a good place to do it IMO. Fleeing a billionaire is not necessarily a good reason to leave a persistently abusive system. The reason to leave is the abuse... They'll be there for 5 minutes wreak havoc, and leave. A few will hang around and spread out and become truly part of the network.

@metkis @neauoire Here's the thing: Twitter is almost certainly doomed because Musk is an incompetent con man who is also known to suppress critics of him and Tesla, so while this first wave is mostly people upset with the fact that Musk is going to own Twitter or with the possibility of the far right being let on board again, there will be future, larger waves, and they will be filled with an even larger variety of people.
