I love Fosstodon. Seriously. And I noticed that I can get more answers here than Twitter. However, I know that Fosstodon is mostly technology and Open Source that I know a lot, but I wanna know if there are other instances where people share other hobbies like music and books.. or is Fosstodon still a good option for that too?I will be posting my stuff here anyway !!! :)

@Aldi80s we actually encourage people to share other topics on Fosstodon so that we diversify the topics we all discuss.We like to think of tech on Fosstodon as the hobby that brings us all together, but NOT what defines us.We need to be better at communicating this, actually. I’ll take this away with the rest of the team. Thanks for raising the question!

@Gina @kev @Aldi80s and to be frank, I mostly get personal stuff more than tech stuff on here. Even the tech stuff is personal stuff like how someone likes or dislikes stuff

@kev That's something I wish I'd better understood in the beginning. I deliberated a lot over some of my early toots because I didn't know how on-topic they needed to be.Still, Fosstodon was a great introduction to the Fediverse. I only relocated because I wanted to try my hand at self-hosting.

@kev @Aldi80s glad to hear this confirmation! When I initially scrolled through my local timeline I immediately had that imposter syndrome nagging and was wondering if posting goat pics, music and other non-tech stuff is really appropriate. Since then I have spotted a lot more diversity though and am starting to feel at home 🤗
