One thing about #ipados that bugs me: in silent mode, I can't turn up the volume for games the way I can for other apps (Youtube, spotify, any other media app really). Like, I don't want notifications, I just want game audio. Why did they change the behaviour? https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251371726 #ipadmini6

@cybette When did this change? I still don't get any notification sounds even though I change media audio volume (videos, music) all the time.

@vurpo I'm not sure either, I got the ipad mini in December 2021 and it was already behaving this way. If I keep it on silent mode (which I prefer), I can change media volume in many apps, but not *games* (which will stay silent). I think previously you can adjust volume on games just like the other apps (on silent mode). According to the linked discussion and a quick search on twitter, the change probably happened around 2019 https://twitter.com/search?q=ios%20silent%20mode%20games&src=typed_query&f=live

@cybette Weird, I observed inconsistent behavior when trying to adjust game audio with the device in silent mode. I thought perhaps Apple left it up to devs to decide whether game audio could override the silent mode setting. 🤷‍♀️

@jezlyn oh that's interesting. All the games I've installed so far (around 10) behave the same way, and they are from different devs/publishers afaik. Just a coincidence?

@cybette I could be remembering wrong. Also, I am thinking of the iPhone's behavior with the silencing switch, so that could be different from iPad behavior.

@jezlyn I guess the inconsistency (between games and other apps) is throwing me off. At first I thought I had a defective ipad. It's also my first Apple product in 8 years so I don't have other devices/recent experiences to compare to... :P

@cybette Ah yes, the only game I have is rollercoaster tycoon and it's been a while since I played it so I don't remember it's behavior. I don't remember any weird behavior but it's possible I just forgot

@vurpo I bought the iPad to do more reading but ended up playing more games on it (oops 😅)
