I’ve successfully been discharged from the mental health clinic. I learned a lot of helpful stuff there, and my new prescription ought to help me moving forward. I’m going to have to take outpatient therapy for a while to work through some “thinking errors” in regards to the negative voice that’s always in my head…but, this feels like a new beginning.

It’s still a long road, but grounding techniques, affirmation, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy / Dialectic Behavioral Therapy can go a long way! I kind of realized one of my big problems is that I’m often anxious about the future, and feel like a disaster is about to hit. Being able to address the anxiety directly seems to be helping a lot.

@seanYeah. When my doctor first prescribed me an anti-anxiety medication, I used on an as-needed basis to deal with the onset of a panic attack, and was tremendously relieved to find it was effective, as I had had severely debilitating episodes in the past. That prevented a self-reinforcing cascade, because I came to realize that I had developed a fear of the anxiety itself, which becomes a downward spiral.@kelbot

@seanAfterwards, I found I didn't really need to medicate, becausd it was enough to know that I could.(Not that you shouldn't take your meds as prescribed! I just found it interesting). @kelbot

@sean @kelbot So glad you managed to get some reality-based treatment. While employed in Minnesota my health insurance regarded every psychological issue fixable by the 12-step church, which only inflamed my self-loathing and fuckitall state. Retiring, studying TA, and meditation with light ganja use lifted a lotta burdens... that and encroaching senility making it harder to remember my problems 😛 :jrbd:PS Keep in mind, a bit of anxiety over Earth's disastrous future is quite sane

Been through the mental health system between about age 25-50 when anxiety just overruled my life, combination of talk therapy and SSRI's and occasional NSRI's. None of them provided fully effective or long term relief and I believe some contributed to some less than acceptable behaviors that didn't help the situation. Took a free class on mindfulness meditation offered by a Buddhist group 12 years ago, was off SSRI's within a month, haven't needed any drugs or therapy since. Different strokes for different folks, but relating what worked for me just in case what you're presently doing doesn't work out long term, another option.
