@DansLeRuSH ᴱᶰ 🦍 Looks like you're missing the python-lxml package. Install it from your preferred pacman helper.

@Brad Koehn ☑️ The problem with Moxie's post is that he only sees two options. Either everybody runs their own servers, or we only use centralised, non-federated services. There's nothing inbetween, which is where it gets problematic.Of course Moxie has a commercial interest in the centralised model. I think it's a conscious omission that he quietly don't mention the possibilities of decentralised hosting. It fits his narrative, but he's a smart guy so I don't for a moment beleive that he's not aware of the opportunity.

@Matt 💙💛 So from an open medium accessible to all to a closed ecosystem relying not only on proprietary software but also specific hardware? Sad story if you ask me.

@Strypey That will depend very much on what kind of software that employer is making. A typical webdev shop will require pretty much the exact opposite of a shop making small embedded devices for industrial control systems.Essential skills that everybody needs is a good understanding of version control. If you know your way around the most common workflows of Git, you're good! You also seem to have been exposed to enough languages to have figured out they are mostly just different ways to express the same ideas.Learning more languages is never wrong, but if you have a favourite among the ones you already know, try learning it well. Learn it's idioms, common ways of doing common tasks, etc. Also a overview of common data structures, lists, heaps, stacks, queues, etc and when to use them is always useful. And while it's good to know how to implement each of them, you'll probably never need to in a real job (unless you end up doing embedded systems for industrial control. :)In short, you may already know enough to be useful. If you see a job you think could be interesting, give it a try and apply for it.Good luck!

Which matrix server is that? How much does it cost you? And are you i.terested in help maintaining it?

@Post Some fediverse servers do. Apart from commenting. As RSS/Atom is one way feeds, there's nowhere to route the comments. If you reshare, the reshare can of course have comments.

@Project Gutenberg Correction: You have joined the fediverse. It relates to Mastodon the same way the web related to Internet Explorer. Please don't mistake the software that you use to access the network for the network itself.

Allow me the impertinence to begin by summarising your otherwise nobel-worthy piece of literature: In a nutshell, you say we should talk like you, fund like you, and disregard human rights like you. [...]Excuse me if this does not appeal to me.Has it even occurred to you that perhaps — just perhaps — we are not failing at being like Silicon Valley but that we do not want to be like Silicon Valley?Have you ever wondered if maybe we can do better than to adopt an excessively greedy system of venture capital and exits that funds spyware and treats people as capital to be bought and sold? This piece from @Aral Balkan is about ten years old, but sadly still relevant. (Although the context may have changed slightly.) Well worth a read!#Digital Imperialism

A quick writeup of my thoughts around packaging OpenJDK for FreeBSD after adding FLAVORS to the OpenJDK 25 port:Traditionally it's been possible to build OpenJDK for FreeBSD either as the full Java Development Kit (JDK), or as the slimmed down Jave Runtime Environment (JRE) via the FreeBSD ports system. This has been acheived by having two different ports, where the -jre port has been just a meta port that configures the main OpenJDK port for building the...— https://kodeknekkeriet.net/en/blog/introducing-flavors-in-openjdk-freebsd/I'd really like som input from the community on this, as I'm not entirely sure about what would be the best way to deal with this. Thanks to the FreeBSD Foundation for sponsoring this project!#FreeBSD #OpenJDK #ports #packaging

I've submitted a patch to deprecate the no longer maintained versions of OpenJDK from the FreeBSD ports tree:#^https://reviews.freebsd.org/D54176This leaves only the LTS versions for now, but I think it's worth also keeping any other still maintained version available. For the moment the latest available version (25) just happens to be an LTS version as well :)Please let me know what you think! If there's any objections from the community I'd love to hear about it.The work I do on OpenJDK for FreeBSD is sponsored by the @FreeBSD Foundation.#FreeBSD #OpenJDK #java #programming #ports
