I studied critical media theory for four years. Learned a lot from this man about American imperialism. So may I please be the first to say:Fuck Chomsky.Let him and folks like Yanis be a lesson for you: don’t let your ivory-tower theorising destroy your humanity.https://nitter.net/visegrad24/status/1515405530067517443

@aral I’ll be honest, Chomsky doesn’t sound unreasonable here – just that, of course, this seems like an unusual call for compromise. The concern Visegrad24 states could be solved with federalization itself, in order to make the Constitution a fundamental rights tool and little else. But at the same time, it’s insulting to go telling a victim of war “hey, you can only save humanity by giving up to the guy who came after you”

@aral So to clarify: if I don't think that the US should fight Russia to the last Ukranian that means I have "lost my humanity"? Did I get that right? If this is the conclusion you draw then maybe you learned less about US imperialism than you thought you had...

@gabor @aral ah yes, American imperialism is bad, but Russian imperialism is good for the world and must be supported, right?

@famicom @gabor @aralThere is no Russian imperialism at play in this conflict, or really anywhere, at all, whereas Western imperialism is entirely the cause of the war and continues to be the fuel poured onto the fire it lit.If any of Ukraine’s figureheads, any of their puppeteers in DC or London or Tel Aviv, cared about Ukrainian people whatsoever they could have prevented the conflict very easily, and could still end it whenever they choose. Stop persecuting Russians, stop terrorizing the Donbass, and do not park nukes or western military on Russian border - something Ukraine had already agreed to and went back on numerous times. Their goal is to harm Russia and push forward plans for Western conquest of it, and they will do so down to the last Ukrainian. They do not give a crap about Ukrainians, the people there are entirely expendable to them – the greater the damage the better, they think. Where Russia has to tiptoe around the battlefield, the West is lobbing munitions indiscriminately from every schoolhouse or residential neighborhood in efforts to maximize casualties, to maximize damage. There is no Russia imperalism at play, there is only another stereotypical slimy conflict instigated for purposes of power and control, operated by the same beast who has raped half the planet over the last century. As is typical for Western wars, there is a clear delineation of right and wrong here, and the West is in the wrong, as they are every damn time.

@famicom @aral no both are equally bad is my point. To return to the Chomsky quote: which of the two alternatives raised are you advocating for? Can I assume that you are for arming Ukraine and fighting to the last Ukranian? Or do you believe in Ukrainian military victory? Do you go so far that NATO should get involved directly? It's easy to post short "f* you"-s and ironic toots that make us feel good or morally superior. I still don't know what you guys think western policy should be...

@gabor @aral as I just so happen to live in Ukraine and would take up arms if/when the 4th wave of the draft hits, yes, I'm for arming us.That's what you and people like you fail to realise, it's the the US fighting Russia until the last Ukrainian, it's Ukrainians fighting a country that has unjustly invaded their territory until the last Ukrainian. Just how the Vietnamese, Syrians, Afghans and many other have against other invading forces.A surrender will be the death of Ukrainians anyway (as de-Nazification is de-Ukrainisation) so even if we don't win (and yet, people were saying that we'll lose within 3 days, then a week, then two weeks, then a month and so on, and yet we keep persevering), we at least have to put up a fight to make it as much of a pyrrhic victory for Russia as possible.
