@calculsoberic @techducks @Tutanota My "Why indeed" was directed at tech-ducks' post.It's not that Telegram's Secret Chats are not secure (even though they're limited to 1:1 chats and use an encryption protocol that isn't as widely regarded as the Signal Protocol used by Signal, WhatsApp, etc..). The point is that Secret Chats are not the default. This means that most people will use chats that are not e2e encrypted thinking they're more private/secure than WhatsApp's when in fact they aren't.

@tobiaalberti oh ok, sorry about that. I looked it up after you mentioned it and saw some of the issues. I'm the type of person who will usually enable the security features, but I realize that not everyone will. I do use Signal most of the time, though. @techducks @Tutanota

@tobiaalberti @calculsoberic @Tutanota yes, but we should also discuss if telegrams encryption protocol is safe. There are lots of opinions. You could also say that it is more secure to use a protocol that is well tested and public like Signals. So for me Telegram is not a safety alternative.
