I think Republicans were so supportive of banning oil imports from Russia only because they saw that as potential leverage to blame the Biden administration for the gas prices that would logically follow.Somehow patriotism and indignation against a predatory Russia does not spring to mind. While Ukrainian people of all walks of life are fighting life or death battles to preserve their freedom and democracy, we have an entire political party playing a blame game and truckers blocking highways because they don't want to wear a tiny mask.True, Biden could order increases in U.S. production, but the U.S. is such a small player on the international oil scene — America controls only 4 % of the world's oil reserves — that even if the U.S. doubled its current production capacity, it still wouldn't make much of a difference.Maybe we need to look to Ukraine to remember how precious the freedom we have is, and that it requires periodic unified sacrifice to preserve.https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/03/08/4-gallon-gas-sanctions-putin/

@TonyStark The Republicans blaming Biden for gas increases are on a par with Russia’s misinformation and propaganda about the invasion of Ukraine not being an invasion at all.

@TonyStark If the Biden administration were to allow free rein in the production and distribution of energy, the Republicans would then excoriate it for contributing to the climate crisis that they don’t care about, either.Crises demand all sides working together on a solution by lending a helping hand. That's what this is.

@RJAWe can also cut gas dependence by (1) encouraging the development of alternative energy and electric vehicles, (2) suppporting regulations calling for higher energy efficiency, and (3) WWII style price controls. Try and find groups of Republicans supporting any of that (you won't.)A big piece of the outrageous prices for oil and gasoline is price gouging by companies and dealers.
