@TonyStark If only all Americans were behind the fight against the pandemic, we'd have this in check. No matter what action President Biden takes, the republicans will continue on with their pro-covid path as long as they feel it will gain them power.

1. Much of this inflation is caused by an enormous goods boom, with personal consumption expenditures for goods up 15% versus pre-crisis (Q4 2019). We've had about 6 years of growth crammed into those two years. Addressing the virus will reduce that goods demand, as people shift spending back to services.3. Wages are up nearly as much as inflation in 2021, and more measured vs. pre-crisis. As of Nov, wages were up about 10% vs. Feb 2020. 4. The pandemic caused prices to fall for the first half of 2020. Measured over two years, inflation (CPI) is up cumulatively 8.5%, and 7.2% excluding food and energy. Divided by two, that's an annual average of 4.25% or 3.6% on average, not that alarming. Also, companies know that they can blame price increases on the administration/pandemic/supply shortages. So there’s no downside to them raising their prices and reaping the profits when they know most people won’t blame their product. Why inflation is so high - https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2022/inflation-charts/

@TonyStark If the Biden administration were to allow free rein in the production and distribution of energy, the Republicans would then excoriate it for contributing to the climate crisis that they don’t care about, either.Crises demand all sides working together on a solution by lending a helping hand. That's what this is.

Right wingers have no solutions to any of today's problems so they find it best to play to their bigoted base and pick on a minority. So thanks to one Republican for some sense on this highly complicated issue.Indiana's GOP governor vetoes transgender sports ban :https://www.npr.org/2022/03/22/1088021904/11-gop-states-transgender-sports-bans-indiana-veto

No one is demanding that anyone else's roles be extinguished. What people are asking is to be included in public spaces and to be treated with respect even if they do not fall into a neatly defined “traditional role”.It's just sickening that one party is putting LGBTQ people through this and that anyone supports it.This teacher was fired for being gay 50 years ago. He's shocked it's happening again. - https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/04/21/school-history-dont-say-gay/

@TonyStark And I read today that a GOP politician, running for office in Georgia, has laid down, as the bedrock of his campaign, the assertion that the 2020 Presidential election was, in his words, 'rigged and stolen'. Aside from the fact that, to my knowledge, no one making such claims has ever bothered to reveal the mechanics of such extensive rigging and such an unprecedented theft. To me, it's as if everyone in the Republican Party has decided to sit at the dinner table, eating with their hands, because they heard a rumor that forks and knives were invented by the Biden administration. These gullible people will never realize how thoroughly they've soiled themselves.Hope we all get out and vote.

@TonyStark And I’m sure the gun-fetishist plan to have unannounced “live shooter drills” in schools will just do emotional wonders for the children and school staff. / sTruly, the gun advocates are despicable people. The lowest dregs of the species…by choice.

@TonyStark The very rich--who own the Republican party along with most of the US economy-- have been careful to bamboozle the masses into thinking they are fortunate to live here, whereas only the wealthy are.

Many economists agree that this post-pandemic moment doesn’t meet many criteria for recession, a politically charged word that has no precise definition and is generally only declared — often after the decline is over — by the National Bureau of Economic Research, a private research group. The unemployment rate is near record lows even if the U.S. has two quarters of declining GDP. Job openings are too high and consumer spending remains fairly strong. And the first quarter’s negative numbers were heavily skewed by technical factors on inventories and trade.Talking about recession doesn't make it so:https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2022/07/27/when-are-we-in-recession/

Ok, here are the merits:People who complain about the loan forgiveness have no idea what student loan debt is like these days. Many people have been making the required payments faithfully for years, and yet now owe MORE than the original amount of the loan. They cannot disburse this amount in bankruptcy court either. They are stuck with it their entire lives. In most cases, they can’t even choose to pay down part of the principal by making extra payments; those payments go to future payments owed, not principal. There is a lot of predatory lending out there, and the vast majority of 17-18 year olds are not sophisticated enough to see through it.The money paid toward loans goes to the upper 1% where it sits, unspent, instead of circulating through the economy with the purchase of homes, cars, and consumer goods and services, and causes people to suffer needlessly. Biden's student loan relief could cost $400 billion, Congressional Budget Office says-https://www.cnbc.com/2022/09/26/bidens-student-loan-relief-could-cost-400-billion-congressional-budget-office-says.html

@TonyStark I heard on some show this morning complaining inflation.Student loan debt payments have not been made for 2 years. The inflationary effect is already baked into our current inflation problem. Discharging the debt is just continuing the status quo and shouldn’t increase inflation further.Facts are important and I agree: the coverage had been light.

Republican economics: Reagan cut taxes and increased spending, and tripled the debt. Bush cut taxes, increased spending, and doubled the debt.Oh, they both gave us economic collapses. Now Youngkin wants to try it in Virginia. But underfunding important services and functions of government and underpaying people are all part of their game plan.https://richmond.com/news/state-and-regional/govt-and-politics/youngkin-seeks-additional-1-billion-in-individual-corporate-tax-cuts/article_ed007e7e-6ba2-5242-b2c2-dd976aecd5cc.html
