Anyone knows any open source/free systems that could help facilitate flow of people and resources? (no basic google searches as response please, already doing that myself). This has to be usable for people who are not logistics professionals, are under heavy stress and wont commit time to learning advanced interfaces. #askfediverse

Our movement has a growing need for coordination of refugees; their transport and housing. Not really separately coordinating; resources and their warehousing, between countries of origin, locally, and in shipments to #Ukraine, and communicating needs and resources between a growing network of international and local activists.

@harce Would a task tracker (like Jira, obviously not Jira itself, as it is closed source and pretty expensive) do the job? There could be different boards for housing, reusable supplies, orders etc., each item having a known status (available, used etc.), with comments and extra tags (like who is using/transporting it etc.)I haven't researched software in that field too much, but eg. Mattermost Boards may be good enough? The interface doesn't seem too difficult.

@sp6mr @harce a Kanban-like board is available for NextCloud: Deck.Kanban is a table where columns represent stages. You could put new “cards” representing groups/families and move them between columns like “Arrived” -> “Fed” -> “Given basic stuff” -> “Assigned transport” -> “Transported”.I’ll search for other ideas right away.

@bootie_fringe I know nothing about it, other than the name. But seems to be even less advanced and convinienet than google docs class solutions in use now.

@harce look, the ledger ecosystem is a lot more advanced & convenient than any google docs solution can bethere exist many interfaces, reaching from using a simple text editor to web pages to mobile apps.if you know nothing about it, but already think google docs seems more advanced, maybe you should do your own research a bit more.I have despised every google docs inventory effort I have taken part in – usually it was only because someone with little domain knowledge chose google docs.

@bootie_fringe Harc has been quite clear: it's about convenience, not power. If you can't recommend anything ready for a large group of activists who don't always have computer literacy equal to yours, consider not posting anything at all.

@harce just to be clear, I am not a logistics or accounting expert. but I am also not here to convince you of benefits of some software.maybe you should actually ask a logistics professional who has management experience.

@sp6mr @harce You may need more than one "board" though, because mixing resources doesn't seem like a good idea. One board for people (arrived - taken care of - departed), another for shipments (ordered - paid - in delivery - delivered) and perhaps more if you need to coordinate more types of objects. Each Deck card can have notes attached to it and colourful labels to distinguish between types of workload. (You could tag shipments as "sensitive" or "urgent", or tag people as "disabled" or "ill", "speaks-English", etc.)

@pfm @harce Deck in NextCloud is kinda basic, and I feel that all projects that are in any way bigger than the most basic ones would quickly outgrow it. In comparison, for example, in Mattermost's board items may have different custom fields, and the same board can be displayed differently depending on which field is used as columns.Definitely useful for projects, which can have more than one angle taken into consideration.

@pfm @harce I am not even talking about Jira, where in addition to custom fields and views one can have different workflow specified (like, a task cannot go from the "order" stage directly to "delivered", as it has to be in "transport" first), and different users can have certain permissions that only allow them for certain transitions.I hate Jira like most people, but it certainly is a powerful tool.

@sp6mr To go even further with simplicity, there's another approach one could take, but it's Windows-specific. I've come up with a poor-man's Kanban a few years ago: https://pefimo.livejournal.com/1942.html

@pfm @sp6mr Kanban style boards are a step forward, but I'm afraid not particularly convenient for managing inventory. Just figured, that some sort of CRM integration might solve some of the problems (ie. shorten the path between volunteers and people attempting to manage chaos), so while I'm attempting to properly identify what's needed, it's starting to reek of a custom solution.Kinda surprised there's apparently no such open source humanitarian-crisis management packages available.
