"Today in the capital of America, we are all here, the almost liberated and the slightly repressed; the butch, the femme, and everything in-between; the androgynous; the monogamous and the promiscuous; the masturbators and the fellators and the tribadists; men in dresses and women in neckties; those who bite and those who cuddle; celebates and pederasts; diesel dykes and nelly queens; amazons and size queens..."(1/2)

"...the shorthaired and the long; the fat and the thin; the nude and the prude; the beauties and the beasts; the studs and the duds; the communes, the couples, and the singles; pubescents and the octogenarians. Yes, we are all here! We are everywhere! Welcome to the March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights!"ok, so there's really onely one word that's BAAAAD, and it's "pederast"this is from a speech in '79 btw

let it just be said, I am reading this for Reasons, also I like history and this is less my normal style but it counts, and I do think there's like, something to be said for knowing the actual history of Pride when people do the annual "kink at Pride" discourse on the internet, Save the Children, blah blah blahbut also, like, geez louise sometimes, lol

I mean the French from Francebasically, ok, the word "pédé" short for "pedophile" is a common slur for gay men specifically in France (we say "tapette" here, more like "pansy")aaaaand this has been reclaimed by like, French radqueers ??? like "faggot" or "queer"such that "transpédégouine" is a term you see in French radical lit sometimesand it's likeI am 100% not feeling this one my dudes and enbies 👀

@ombres yes I was really weirded out by this when I was in france a few years ago, I'm surprised you hadn't encountered that! TPG seemed to be the equivalent of queer from what I could tell (which kinda makes sense cause queer is a homophone with cuir, which is also kinda funny and perfect, although this doesn't seem to be a problem for anyone in quebec where I just hear people use queer in french)

@peoplelikedogs oh I've known about it for years, and rejected it both before AND after I understood it 😆just to infodump about French terminology more: apparently in the early '90s, people tried to make "allosexuel" a thing, as an equiv to "queer", but it didn't catch cuz it sucks. and of course later anglo ace folks would repurpose that term as meaning basically "not asexual"!

@peoplelikedogs I accept that "pédé" sort of just means "gay man", not "pedophile", even though the "all gay men are pedophiles" is baked right in thereso, like, if I was in high school and I was standing up to my bullies or somethjing, I might think it's provisionally okay to say "actually fuck you I am a pédé"but seems like, as a collective identity we are gonna affirm and give positive meaning to, it's not great!

@ombres @peoplelikedogs "pédé" is used since a really long time. It is completely disconnected from its root "pédéraste" now. Everyone use it without knowing it came from that. wikipedia says that even in the XVI century it just mean gay and not pedo.It is overwhelmingly the most used slur, that's why gays use it also. And its short too.
