Starting to think that maybe groups organized and centered around corporate social media platforms are just spectacle meant to enrich the media giant's profits off the unpaid labor of community influencers and moderators. Maybe, just maybe, these platforms are not the bastions of progress we were promised, and instead what we see is a mass audience instead of a huge platform for organizing anything of substance.

ffs, your organizing is not a brand. Values like "reach", "impressions", "views", and "click-through" are the exact same key indicators of profit for these companies. 🤦♀️

@polymerwitch This is why I struggled and failed to care when it was brought up in my household's server. Thank you for articulating it.If I'm understanding you correctly, the structure of a platform used by organizers, however seemingly democratic, affects a movement to a huge degree.The structure of Reddit especially doesn't seem conducive to meaningful change at a kind, consistent pace.

@Gemma It's like if some anarchists got invited onto the Bachelor, and then in the coached and edited interviews they got to talk about anarchism a bit.Did that help spread anarchism? Some fans certainly wear circle A shirts now, and some people who were already anarchists tuned in. I wouldn't call that a "movement", a serious bastion of organizing, or even really very helpful at all.
