When I was younger I would not close a "parent" process until a "child" process was done. More specifically if I downloaded a file from the net then ran said file from within the browser I would not close the browser until that downloaded file was done doing its thing...#SillyComputerBeliefsYour turn

@mgrondin@youdabomb.socialFor a while, I didn't understand why I couldn't "quit" a Finder window in macOS.Then I learned that macOS treats the Finder (file manager) and the desktop environment as one in the same, which explains why it can't be quit out of. Quitting it would quit the entire desktop environment. Then I learned I could close Finder windows with Command-W, so it was fine in the end.#macOS #Quit

@mgrondin@youdabomb.social I was used to Windows' way of doing it, where the file manager (Explorer) can be closed like any other program.

@mgrondin@youdabomb.social I used to be really afraid of .rar files (I still am), and I don't understand how .zip files work...

@thebiologist1117 @mgrondin ZIP files are just a file which stores the data of other files inside them as subfiles (they're not actually files inside the ZIP file, because ZIP isn't a folder).RAR is similar.

@mgrondin I see your superstition and raise you a real conditioned behavior. When I've played the organ here, I have to tap the head phone plug on the casing of my Audient first, then plug it in. If I plug it in right away, a spike consistently hits on the USB, causing jackd to start consuming 100% of CPU, causing XRUNS and choking audio on my system. I then have to close qjackctl, SIGKILL the jackd process and restart the soundcard.
