The Greason debacleThere is a lot of rumors running around, a lot of noise, enough that make all fedi (or at least this side) turn around to what was the rambling about. I never developed pleroma, and I am fairly new to fedi (about a year here), but one way or another I consider it my home, maybe many others do to and that is why we were so loud, at any rate as usual the replies were just the tip of the iceberg, considering what gleason has been saying since all the uproar started it is clear to me what he wants, he wants a fedi or pleroma to be a facebook or a twitter killer (it won’t happen, probably never will without an actual substantial societal change, but he is not even aware of this). He said it in one post that I don’t care enough to browse, he wants fedi for normies, which if you think about it is exactly what copebox is, however we already have one of those, and it is called mastodon (not exactly sure why he didn’t stay there or forked it if that was his intention) but even assuming more exodus from big social media would happen it would be just like gab or poa.st all over again, a group of people alien to the already existing fedi culture or community (which goes along more with the idea of interaction) the migration on itself isn’t big of an issue the thing that is, is that the people that come in don’t integrate with the broader fedi that is more leant to a community, people from poa.st and even spinster then to just keep and interact with people from their instance, they are not on fedi, they are on their isolated islands, not inherently because of their views but because they rarely interact with people from the outside, however this is the least important issue. The main issue with creating yet another twitter clone is that the people from there if they even set foot here will treat Fedi as twitter when it isn’t like it, people go to twitter to either get clout or the annoyancy of the interactions, in other words to get triggered and to trigger others, twitter is only fun when you are making others mald & seethe, making fedi more like twitter will bring this kind of people (in some degree they are already here), which is why I am even against the core idea of what Alex is trying to do.And the other thing that he doesn’t seem to be getting as well as anyone that wants to make fedi more like twitter is that most “normal” people see and use social media exclusively as a tool to get entertained, fedi is not like that, the idea of a user when logs into any big tech social media is “get me entertainment” even unconsciously, on fedi, at least for me is more to see and interact with the people that is there regardless of how entertaining that may be, is just like saying good morning to your neighbor, with a fedi more like twitter there will be no more neighbors and that I do not support much less abide. This is my personal rant and a setting for what I will explain next. The pleroma backendOn the development side; since gleason wants to make fedi more “normie friendly” most of the changes he has made aim to that or to benefit soapbox in some way, as such pleroma developers (also already stablished), disagreed on various of his inputs which are best if you see first hand as seen and documented by a pleroma developer: https://queer.hacktivis.me/notice/AFbsjUKgIxKBW0iXfk I really recommend you read at least the git issues which show basically just how gleason took over the whole project, and has been pushing a lot of his changes without even caring about any sort of consensus between the developers, the biggest issue and the schism from a outsider’s perspective comes from this complete disregard of the people he was working with, an ongoing issue that has just being going on for months, an issue that gained enough momentum now to being able to create a fork loud and clearly, a divide. For me maybe underlyingly a reason for the disagreement comes also from the push or idea of making pleroma more twitter like, that if they are not downright bad merge request made by gleason. That is the present opposition or resistance, however that is not even the real issue, but how this contrary position is being handled by gleason (you can see it live time he has just been posting Ls lately as well as the git merge request history). It is obvious he doesn’t know how to deal with a opinion contrary to his and is unable to reason with people that don’t share his views, even worse, he has the faculty to completely ignore these different views, and that for any community driven effort is death, which is why the pleroma fork exists.

@aliss @bot @RikaDerufu this is what I know of the reasons for a fork to exist.

@ember @Salastil Here let me summarize it for you and others:There is an existing culure here and Greason wants to flood it with normies by being a "Twitter killer" which is delusional and will never happen, the existing culture likes how it is, and Greason pushed back on that. These normies won't care to integrate, and will stick to their echochambers, like poa.st or spinster.xyz . Twitter is nothing but clap back and snark, and making fedi like twitter will destroy what fedi is now.Gleason took over the pleroma project and started merging changes without talking to the team about the changes. He's been a controlling asshole on the git issues (well documented). This is why the fork exists.

@coyote @ember @Salastil In my opinion, no matter why the fork appeared and who created it, any fork has the right to live only if support is not dropped
