That wasn't so bad. The sensors were just completely covered in dirt. I gave them a quick cleaning and the Roomba is back in working order.

@kyle have you written about any of your hoke automation? I understand it's possible to use home assistant with irobor stuff and I really want to take on that project.

@obsolete29 I don't have a lot of home automation stuff in place yet. I don't want the proprietary solutions and haven't wanted to invest the time to piece together something homegrown, mostly because I haven't (at least yet) found enough benefit in the automation to offset the initial effort and ongoing maintenance. But that's just me, I'm sure for plenty of geeks the "neat factor" tips the scales toward making it worth it especially if they already enjoy electronics projects.

@kyle Home Assistant is the open source solution for home automation. I started out with Homekit and have invested in some lights and switches. No really killer uses but as you get more devices it starts to be a lot cooler and interesting. Def a luxury thing tho

@kyle How easy was it to open your robot? I have a Vorwerk VR-200 and it is almost impossible to open it without breaking things.Best thing is, if I want to clean the ball bearing of the main brush I have to work myself all the way from top to bottom to reach it.

@le_ArthurDent The Roombas that I have had, have all been very easy to work on. This one was a 500 series which is quite old, so I don't know what recent models are like, but there are guides online that walk you through disassembly and repair step by step. It is mostly just removing screws in a certain order.

@kyle Good to know, our Vorkwerk is also quite old. I'll keep that in mind when he ceases his services permanently.
