It's been generally assumed that Youtube is dying for smaller vloggy creators such as myself. Most people have moved on to Tiktok, Snapchat, Instagram (for oldies), for all their short-form, community-made content.I'm not quitting Youtube for good any time soon, but maybe it's time I considered the #Fediverse to be my primary platform. I spend most of my social media time here, I genuinely enjoy it, and I think it's more of a reflection of who I am and what I want to say.

@ChrisWere From my experience it seems like a lot of snapchat's content craze died out a while back.Maybe I just didn't follow the right people, but most of the discoverability was destroyed by the ads that they shoved in there to make it financially viable.

@rune It's definitely not the giant it was, but I haven't been on Snap for years, so I'm a bit out-of-the-loop on that one.

@ChrisWere I'm curious, what do you feel the biggest challenges are for doing so? Do you use Patreon or do you have enough followers to monetize your YouTube content?Which platforms on the fedi? PeerTube or something else?

@ChrisWere I've thought about this a fair bit because I support a few folks on Patreon and they only ever post their content on YouTube yet I've read instances where some people get deplatformed and there goes their main way of supporting themselves. I've inquired with them if there were a tier of patreon support that may allow me to access their content on a non-google property but I never get a response.

@obsolete29 I don't really monetise outside of a modest and very optional liberapay page, so the sheer number of viewers to me is less consequential.I don't think I necessarily have much of a challenge rather than working out how the culture of #Peertube is different from Youtube.

I've noticed a lot of folks jumping over to LBRY as well. Understandably, all videos being in a single location makes for easier discovery, I really think PeerTube is a better platform given most folk's reasons for leaving YouTube.

@ChrisWere I've not seen any YouTube channels that I watch do a good job of making short content (except Chuck's Astrophotography, which has been very educational). It seems content creators are locked into doing specific content for specific platforms (longform on YouTube, and short on TikTok).I'd consider trying PeerTube and going Full-on Fedi, but I want to self-host and have no idea how much it costs to run a modest sized PeerTube instance. =\
