#Bitcoin singlehandedly undid ALL the environmental good of electric vehicles in 2021, and consumed almost 2X as much energy as in 2020.https://twitter.com/Cord__/status/1477886739972829184

@globalc Imagine future where we have advanced as civilisation to gather energy direclty from stars ... just to continue with this crypto shitshow. In that scenario I consider our civilization to be an epic failure.

@jb @globalc Electricity used for mining Bitcoin causes emissions, while electricity used by EVs removes them? 🤔

@codewiz is this a good-faith nitpick or just trying to derail and distract from the message? For those reading along: each electric vehicle "produces" some amount less emissions than a combustion vehicle. Take all those "savings" combined. The electricity used for bitcoin causes more emissions than that value. It is *not* an argument for EVs. Simply a comparison. In fact, it could be used as a pretty good argument that EVs are not a sufficient solution.

@bhart The point I was trying to make was that the amount of energy used is the wrong metric.A solar panel can generate energy with no emissions, and you could use that energy to mine crypto or to to drive around in a cybertruck. So I'm not nit-picking to distract from the message; I'm pointing out that the message in question (*) is an attempt to mislead the public by someone with a political agenda.(*) "Bitcoin singlehandedly undid ALL the environmental good of electric vehicles in 2021"

@bhart To be 100% clear: I'm not saying that Bitcoin miners are using 100% renewable energy.Mining *is* very bad and wasteful, but the comparison to EVs is trying to make it look worse than wasting electricity for other reasons. And this is what triggered my bullshit detector.
