@selea I think Debian and other distros will still package it in their native formats but they'll be "unofficial".

@redstarfish In donation it was stated that Red Hat donates 10k to OBS to make flatpak official and as someone who uses "flatpak based" system what is the problem with that?

@stampirl I don't have any problem with it, I just observed it. :-) Though I'd have personally something else.

@stampirl @redstarfish the problem is that flatpak is one of the worst things that has happened to the GNU/Linux community in a long time and that RedHat (IBM) is bribing projects using donations so these projects use their (harmful) package management solution.

@stampirl @redstarfish Too much reasons to explain here, I'd advise you to read this article about the problems with Flatpak, Snaps and other packaging systems:https://ludocode.com/blog/flatpak-is-not-the-future

@selea @redstarfish Distro package maintaners are the ones packanging it.If some distro stops shipping something as big as OBS due to it not having an offical distro-specific package, people shouldn't use that distro anyway.I mean if a project doesn't have the manpower to package major software, it doesn't have the manpower to keep the distro secure, simple as that.Of course, Debian is certainly big enough that it doesn't have those problems and will ship OBS either way

@redstarfish It's quite amazing how a single toot from this instance can bring so many people to argue about packaging formats.

@jb @redstarfish They both package libraries with the binary destroying the functionality of shared libraries and wasting memory. And they both involve a lot of complexity that simply compiling the binary static would also address equally well. So I don't see any PLUS to flatpak, they both suck.
