Section year pages in Astro using just about the same logic as I had on my Hugo site before, but a lot quicker to read / write because it's not that dang Go template language.

OTOH Astro takes 87 seconds on my machine to build what I have so far, which is roughly a minute and a half longer than Hugo takes to build the text content.I haven't tried to tweak anything for performance yet, but I got a hunch it won't ever be close.

Seeing if I can do anything with `astro --experimental-static-build` because if I can't speed up this build I know I'll fall back to Hugo. Or maybe Nanoc. Not fast but faster than 87s.

@randomgeek I don’t think anything would be faster than Hugo. Never looked at Nanoc when I compared SSGs, how does it stack up against Jekyll?

@pimoore I like Nanoc much more than Jekyll, but the disclaimer there is I like SSGs that give me a lot of control over structure. If you just want to write a dang blog and it's gotta be static, Jekyll's still sets the usability standard.

@randomgeek Interesting, sounds like Nanoc is better suited to a full website as opposed to a blog. How does it compare to Jekyll in terms of build speed?

@pimoore I'm not sure there. I haven't used Jekyll since 2015, and my source files have diverged too far from their conventions for a quick test. But my 600-page site takes about 1.3s on warmed-up Hugo (first run 76s does image manip & since I haven't implemented on other builders I don't count it). Same sources ~60s on Nanoc.

@randomgeek It’s too bad Hugo’s templating engine seems kind of obtuse IMO, but the fact it’s like greased lightning to compile makes up for it.
