@FreePietje thanks for the link ! i agree, i have similar feelings about it, lately, though i haven't been able to word it that eloquentlysomething like "scope reduction" but for human communication—and then i don't mean localism, just somehow limited communities, what is the point of literally everyone being able to put thoughts in your head(i also like the part about reading a book instead 😄 )

@taoeffect @FreePietje i don't think his point is that things reported in the news never affect you, just that most doesn't and the actually important things will reach you some other way, without having to follow it day to day

@orionwl wrt to reading a book: it really drove down (?) the distinction between reflexive ((anti-)social media/news) and reflective for me.With the latter you get context/nuances/etc and that is so much more valuable. And reading a book is itself relaxing.I forgot in which show, but Bo Burnham (recommended!) mentioned that nowadays people's whole life is turned into a performance. That just isn't healthy.Constantly being judged by everyone, all of the time, isn't healthy either.

@orionwl And I like the whole idea of Mastodon/Fediverse. Build your own community/ies where you inform eachother about the things you (both/all) care about.Where the goal is to communicate and inform.Not to generate as much ad/click revenue for some faceless SV company or other entity who could care less about the people and the bonds between them, apart from what makes them the most money.

@taoeffect It could be the interpretation that @orionwl and I gave to it, but that's exactly how I read it too.Depending on your line of work and/or interests, it may be (a bit) different.I heard we may have a new government before the end of the year ... ~9 months after the elections. A new gov may turn relevant for me, but I have 0 knowledge about all the (dumb) political theater that likely happened to get to that point, probably reported on daily.And I missed all of it, wonderful 😎
