@waffelo the two are not mutually exclusive and should just be bridged together imho.xmpp is stream multiplexing and matrix is a distributed event tree.

@bonifartius @waffelo And XMPP server is so lightweight you can have it around without even noticing. So I keep both installed and running.

@brunofontes yeah, xmpp is pretty light on resources. i think that the story for matrix is better with the newer generation servers like dendrite. that synapse is written in python shows in the resource requirements, even if the devs did a pretty good job tuning it. there are just limits to how much you can get out of a moderately good scripting language ;)@waffelo
